@OW_Panthers Softball splits home doubleheader with Purchase

Old Westbury travels Tuesday (Apr. 24) to Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference doubleheader

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball split a Skyline Conference home doubleheader Sunday afternoon by winning 6-3 in the opener before dropping an 8-6 decision to the Purchase College Panthers (6-15, 4-10 Skyline) in the finale from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury (10-10, 3-9 Skyline) is now 4-6 versus Purchase dating back to 2014.

Game 1: Old Westbury 6, Purchase
Purchase broke the scoring ice with a Kelly Hayes RBI double on Old Westbury starter Lauren Bloom (W, 5-2: 12 H, 3 R, 5 K) for the 1-0 lead.  

Amanda Fucci (2-for-4, RBI) tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single that scored Bloom (2-for-3, 2 RBI, BB).

In the second inning, Bloom keyed a three-run frame with a two-run double that scored Jessica Livingston for the game-winning run.  

Old Westbury extended its lead to five (6-1) in the fourth inning as a fielding error by Hayes in center field allowed Otilia Bernal (2-for-3, 2 R) and Nicole Baron to score.

Purchase scored two runs in the fifth on a Daniella Edelson two-run double that settled the 6-3 final.  

Game 2: Purchase 8, Old Westbury 6
Old Westbury jumped out to a 1-0 first-inning lead as a fielding error by left fielder Lisa Kentris scored Amelia Cariddi.

Another fielding error by Kentris allowed Bloom to score and Amanda Neenan's single drove in Samantha Arcese to make it a 3-0 game in the third inning.

Purchase erupted for seven runs on three hits and five errors on Baron (L, 4-5, 7 IP, 8 H, 8 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 4 K) in a decisive seventh inning.  Shawna Smith's two-out single to second scored Antonina Fiore for the game-winning run as Purchase went up 7-3.  

Old Westbury's comeback attempt fell short after scoring three runs in the seventh inning on Purchase starter Kelly Agostini (W, 4-13: 7 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 3 ER, 7 BB, K).  Kristin Grieshaber stroked a two-run single to right center before Neenan scored on a wild pitch for the game's final run.

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY MACCABEES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Tuesday (Apr. 24) 2) for a 6 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-20, 0-10 Skyline) from Bahoshy Field on the campus of Fordham University in Bronx, New York.  Old Westbury is 4-0 all-time versus Yeshiva.
