@OW_Panthers Softball dominates Skyline sweep of Yeshiva

Old Westbury remains on the road Thursday (Apr. 26) for a non-conference doubleheader at College of Staten Island

BRONX --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball collected 11-2 and 15-5 Skyline Conference road wins Tuesday evening over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-22, 0-12 Skyline) from Fordham University's Bahoshy Field in Bronx.  With two conference games left on the schedule, Old Westbury (12-10, 4-9 Skyline) currently leads Purchase by one game for the sixth and final seed in next week's Skyline Conference Championship.

Game 1 (5 Inn.): Old Westbury 11, Yeshiva 2
Old Westbury put the game away by scoring eight runs in the second inning off Yeshiva starter Samantha Cohen (L, 1-11: 5 IP, 13, 11 R, 10 ER, 4 BB, K).  Jessica Schwartz's two-run single scored Otilia Bernal (2-for-3) for the game-winning run. The Panthers added run-scoring singles by Amelia Cariddi (3-for-4, 3  RBI, R, SB), Samantha Arcese (3-for-4, 2 R, RBI) and Kaite Skelly to build an 8-0 advantage.

Lauren Bloom and Cariddi had RBI singles in the third before Schwartz (1-for-2, 3 RBI, R, BB) drew a bases loaded walk to score Arcese for the 11-1 lead.

Malky Perlberger's leadoff single in the fifth inning ended Panther starter Jessica Livingston (W, 1-0: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, ER, 8 K) no-hit bid.  Two batters later, Basya Goldstein's RBI single scored Perlberger to settle the 11-2 final.

Game 2 (5 Inn.): Old Westbury 15, Yeshiva 5
Old Westbury compiled 13 hits and scored in all five innings to complete the sweep.  Livingston opened with a leadoff single and advanced home on a three-base error by center fielder Ellie Chase for Old Westbury's 1-0 lead.  Four batters later, Arcese (2-for-4, 2 R) singled off starter Elisa Alweis (L, 0-11: 5 IP, 13 H, 15 R, 8 ER, 8 BB, K) to score Cariddi.

After a pair of costly errors allowed two more runs to cross the plate, Amanda Fucci (3-for-4, 2 RBI, R) singled home Bloom (2-for-5, 2 R) to push Old Westbury's lead to five in the second inning.

Amanda Needan (1-for-3, 3 R) led off the third with a double and scored the game-winning run off two wild pitches to make it a 6-0 game.

Yeshiva pulled within one (6-5) in the bottom of the third as four errors allowed five unearned runs to score off Fucci (W, 2-3: 3 H, 5 R, 0 ER, BB, 7 K).

Schwartz (1-for-2, 4 RBI, 3 R) tripled home three runs in the fourth before Old Westbury tacked on five runs off two singles and two errors for the 15-5 final.

COLLEGE OF STATEN ISLAND DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Thursday (Apr. 26) 2) for a 5 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against the College of Staten Island Dolphins (16-10) from CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island.  The two teams meet for the first time since 2015 as Staten Island has won five of the last eight games against Old Westbury.
