@OW_Panthers Softball splits twinbill versus Hunter

Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Apr. 7) to face Farmingdale State College in Skyline Conference action

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball concluded Thursday afternoon with a 8-4 win in the opener and dropped an 11-1 decision in five innings against the Hunter College Hawks (4-8) in non-conference action from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury (5-3) entered the day with a five-game losing streak to Hunter dating back to the 2013 season.

Game 1: Old Westbury 8, Hunter 4
Old Westbury threatened in the first inning with a leadoff single by Jessica Livingston.  Livingston and Nicole Baron executed a double steal before three-straight ground outs stranded them for Hunter starter Caroline Bibula (1-3) to escape out of the jam.  Amelia Cariddi (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R, BB) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a two-out double to plate home Lauren Bloom and Amanda Fucci.

Panther starter Baron (W, 2-1, 7 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K) helped her own cause in the fourth with a two-run double to make it a 4-0 game.

Samantha Arcese doubled home Cariddi in the fifth for what proved to be the game-winning run off Bibula for Old Westbury's 5-0 lead.  Three batters later, Livingston reached on a dropped fly by left fielder Samantha Molloy that allowed Otilia Bernal and Arcese to score.

Baron, who fanned four batters and allowed just two hits through five innings until Alisha Dovicsak's sixth inning pinch hit RBI single put the Hawks on the board.

Bernal extended Old Westbury's lead in the sixth with a RBI single to make it an 8-1 game.

Hunter scored three unearned runs on three hits and two errors in the seventh to settle the 8-4 final.

Game 2 (5 Inn.): Hunter 11, Old Westbury 1
In the opening inning, Livingston (1-for-3, R) scored Old Westbury's lone run as Cariddi  reached on a fielding miscue by shortstop Jamie Durso to put the Panthers up 1-0.

From there, Hawk starter Leanna Donahue (W, 2-1; 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 K) allowed just two more hits over the next four innings to cruise to victory.

Hunter used a bases loaded situation to put one on the board in the second inning off Panther starter Fucci (L, 1-2; 4.0 IP, BB, K).  Gianna Raimondi reached on a fielder's choice and scored two batters later on a wild pitch to knot the game at one.

Allyson Bricker kicked off Hunter's eight-run fourth inning by producing the game-winning RBI single to center field to score Dovicsak for the go-ahead tally (2-1).
The Hawks tacked on two unearned runs in the fifth frame off Panther reliever Baron to secure the 11-1 run-rule win.

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Apr. 7) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. against the Farmingdale State College Rams from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers look to build off of last season's eight inning victory over the Rams.
