@OW_Panthers Softball tussles with Farmingdale State in Skyline twinbill

Old Westbury remains at home Sunday (Apr. 8) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball dropped 5-2 and 4-1 Skyline Conference home decisions Saturday against the Farmingdale State College Rams (6-12, 2-0 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury (5-5, 0-4 Skyline) was looking to build off last season's eight inning victory over the Rams.

Game 1: Farmingdale State 5, Old Westbury 2
Farmingdale State broke the scoring ice in the opening inning with three runs scored off Panther starter Lauren Bloom (L, 2-1; 7 IP, 12 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB).  Jessica Lombardo homered over the left field fence to drive in two for the Rams' early lead. Two batters later, Sierra Cardenales scored the game-winning run off a Haley Schmeiser ground out.

Farmingdale State tacked on another run in the third inning using a Schmeiser single to center field for Rayfield to head home and push the Rams' lead to four.

Old Westbury responded in the the third with a two-out RBI double by Bloom (2-for-3, RBI, 2 2B) off Ram starter Jaxie Collard (W, 4-4; 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K) to score Nicole Baron (1-for-3, R, 2B).

Schmeiser extended Farmingdale State's lead in the fifth inning with a RBI single to make it a 5-1 game.

Trailing 5-1, Old Westbury scored in the fifth inning as Amanda Neenan advanced home off Lauren London's sacrifice bunt to settle the 5-2 final.

Game 2: Farmingdale State 4, Old Westbury 1
Farmingdale State opened the game by scoring four consecutive runs over five innings of play.  The Rams capitalized off a miscue by Panther starter Baron (L, 2-2; 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 K) in the opening inning for the 1-0 lead. Farmingdale State then added to the scoring with an unearned run in the third frame to make it a 2-0 game.   The Rams stretched its lead to four by scoring two in the fifth off three hits and one error.

Brianna Huillca scored Old Westbury's lone run in the sixth inning off Ram starter Julia Walpole (W, 2-2; 5.2 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 4 BB, 3 K).  Huillca earned a leadoff walk, advanced two bases off a passed ball and wild pitch before rounding home off Samanatha Arcese's walk to settle the 4-1 final.

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Sunday (Apr. 8) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. against the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
