@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse opens Skyline play with Mount Saint Mary overtime thriller

Old Westbury remains at home next Tuesday (Apr. 10) for a Skyline Conference showdown against Maritime College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse lost a heartbreaking 16-15 Skyline Conference, Senior Day/Autism Awareness overtime thriller to the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (5-4, 2-0 Skyline) Saturday afternoon from Panther Park.

Prior to opening draw, seniors LaChaye Allen (2016-18), Roseann Cox (2016-18), Taylor Guarneri (2015-18), Ashley Gugliuzzo (2015-18), Halle Johnson (2015-18), Edania Martinez (2015, 2017-18), Jessica Tuckruskye (2014-18) and Danielle Weir (2015-18) were honored with Old Westbury's annual Senior Day Ceremony for their dedication to SUNY Old Westbury Athletics.

Courtney Condron broke the scoring ice 2:32 in to give Mount Saint Mary the early lead.  Allen responded with her second goal of the season for Old Westbury to knot the game at one with 21:09 remaining in the opening half.  At 20:15, Chelsea Henke put one past Panther goalie Gugliuzzo and 13 seconds later Liz Halpin found the back of the net to put the Knights up 3-1.  Johnson finished a feed from Allen for the Panthers to pull within one (3-2) with 17:49 left. Mount Saint Mary capitalized on two man-up situations to make it a 5-2 game with 11:56 showing on the first half clock.  With 8:49 remaining, Guarneri netted her fifth goal of the season to beat Knight netkeeper Amanda Picillo before Henke tallied a man-up score to push the Mount Saint Mary advantage back to three (6-3). Old Westbury answered with goals from Cox and Weir within a span of 16 seconds to rim the deficit to one (6-5).  Cameron Isnardi found Johnson for her second goal of the game with 4:22 left before Meghan Cumming settled the first half scoring to give the Knights an 8-6 lead heading into intermission.

Isnardi opened the second-half scoring 38 seconds in with her fourth goal of the season.  Condron helped extend Mount Saint Mary lead to two (9-7) with 27:26 left. The Panthers scored four-straight goals to pull ahead 11-9 for their first lead.  Mount Saint Mary battled back with four unanswered goals of their own to grab a 13-11 advantage with 15:07 remaining. Old Westbury put together a 4-1 run over the next 4:21 to jump ahead, 15-14, before Christia Ryan scored the equalizer with 5:38 left that sent a 15-all game into overtime.  

Allen caused a Henke turnover to set up Guarneri for a shot attempt with 60 seconds left in the overtime period.  Mount Saint Mary charged the goal following a turnover as Morgan Pavlik fired the game-winning goal past Gugliuzzo with three seconds left to settle the 16-15 final.

Gugliuzzo (1-8) finished with eight saves in defeat for Old Westbury as Picillo (5-4) turned away eight shots to earn Mount Saint Mary's win.  

Isnardi led Old Westbury with four goals, two assists and five draw controls.  Johnson added four goals while Weir controlled six draws and scooped four ground balls.  Natasha Treuman had two goals and six caused turnovers. Allen went for four caused turnovers and four ground balls.  Rachel Phillips dished out a game-high three assists.

Condron led all scorers with five goals to pace the Knights.
