@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer opens 2018 play at Rowan

Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday to take on Rutgers-Camden at day two of the Gilmore Alumni Classic

GLASSBORO, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer were handed a 3-0 season-opening loss to the Rowan University Profs (1-0) Friday evening at the Gilmore Alumni Classic from Rowan Soccer Field in Glassboro, New Jersey.  The final is Old Westbury's first season-opening loss since 2015.

Kevin Primich headed home the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute past Panther goalie Mike Warren (0-1) off Kevin Pereira's corner kick from the right side for the 1-0 lead.  Rowan tested Warren with nine first-half shots as three landed on target.

Old Westbury got its first shot off 55:29 in as Edens Avrils' attempt was turned away by Rowan goalie Kyle Dennis (1-0).  Primich struck again in the 81st minute to double the Owls advantage before Pereira settled the 3-0 final off a flick from Mike Schoener.  

Warren (0-1) totaled seven saves as Dennis made three stops to preserve Rowan's win.

Avril took three of Old Westbury's six shots on the day as Rowan finished with the edge in shots (21-6), shots on goal (10-3) and corner kicks (6-3).

RUTGERS-CAMDEN SCARLET RAPTORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury closes out the Gilmore Alumni Classic Saturday (Sept. 1) afternoon at 3 p.m. against the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors (1-0) from Rowan Soccer Field in Glassboro, New Jersey.
