Rutgers-Camden tests @OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer defense

Old Westbury remains on the road Tuesday (Sept. 4) for a non-conference showdown with Kean University

GLASSBORO, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer closed out play Saturday at the Gilmore Alumni Classic with a 2-0 setback to the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors (2-0-0) from Rowan Soccer Field in Glassboro, New Jersey.

Both teams played a scoreless opening half as Peter Young fired wide for the lone Old Westbury (0-1-0) attempt of the period 10:35 in.  The Panther defense kept Rutgers-Camden off the board despite testing goalie Mike Warren (0-2-0) with 13 first-half shots (three on goal).

Rutgers-Camden broke a scoreless second-half tie with an opening minute goal just 26 seconds in as Skyler Diggs sank a one timer past Warren off a feed from Patrick Grudnik for the 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.  Old Westbury pressured Scarlet Raider goalie Kieran Burns (2-0-0) in the 66th minute with two shots in a five second span as Brian Lopez hit the post followed by Young firing high at 65:35. Rutgers-Camden would double its advantage 3:19 later of Aba David beat Warren for the two-goal cushion.

Warren finished with six saves while Burns faced three shots to earn the shutout victory.

In the end, Rutgers-Camden held the edge in shots (20-3), shots on goal (8-0) and corner kicks (11-3).

KEAN UNIVERSITY COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road Tuesday (Sept. 4) to take on the Kean University Cougars (1-0-0) at 7:30 p.m. from Alumni Field in Union, New Jersey.
