@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer opens 2018 campaign at SUNY Cobleskill

Old Westbury remains on the road Wednesday at Rutgers-Newark

COBLESKILL, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer opened the 2018 season Friday afternoon with a 2-1 non-conference road setback to the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (1-0) from Fighting Tiger Soccer/Lacrosse Complex in Cobleskill, New York.

Marissa Olivieri broke the scoring ice in the 36th minute on a blast from 20 yards out to beat Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (0-1) for Cobleskill's 1-0 lead.  Old Westbury wasted little time as Brianna Williams responded by scoring in her debut off a thru ball from Ashley Onofre to tie the game in the 40th minute.

The match was settled in the 53rd minute as Nellie Ramsden put one past Higgins for the breakaway game-winning goal.

Higgins made 12 saves in defeat for Old Westbury while Abigail Wetsel (1-0) stopped five shots to secure Cobleskill's win.

Cobleskill held the advantage in shots (28-7), shots on goal (14-6) and corner kicks (12-2).

RUTGERS-NEWARK SCARLET RAIDERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road Wednesday (Sept. 5) against the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders at 7:30 p.m. from Alumni Field in Newark, New Jersey.
