@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer tops Yeshiva for Skyline opening win

Old Westbury travels Saturday (Sept. 15) for a non-conference matchup versus John Jay College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer earned their second-straight home win Friday morning after posting a 3-0 Skyline Conference-opening tally over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-4-0) from Panther Park.  The Panthers (2-4-0) improve to 8-3-0 all-time in their Skyline openers, including 3-0-0 when starting the league slate at home.

Cara Normile helped Old Westbury take the early lead 4:58 in by scoring her fourth-career goal (second-career game winner) with a corner kick that sailed past the outstretched arms of Yeshiva goalie Rivka Lindenblatt (0-3-0).  In the 24th minute, Brianna Williams doubled Old Westbury's advantage after finishing a run from Gabby Lamanno for the breakaway goal. The Panthers took a 3-0 lead into intermission with Keleyna Romoleroux's first goal of the season in the 31st minute.

The Panther defense prevented Yeshiva from putting up a shot attempt for the final 66:43 as Alexa Higgins (2-4-0) turned away two shots to secure her second-career shutout.  Lindenblatt made five first-half saves before Gabriella Chutter stopped nine second-half shots for Yeshiva.

Old Westbury held the advantage with season highs in shots (35-2), shots on goal (17-2) and corner kicks (10-0).

JOHN JAY COLLEGE BLOODHOUNDS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Saturday (Sept. 15) for a non-conference matchup with the John Jay College Bloodhounds (2-2-1) at 11 a.m. from Randall's Island in Manhattan.  The Panthers own a 4-0 record versus the Bloodhounds since 2011.
