@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer led by Higgins’ program-best 23 saves at John Jay

Old Westbury returns home Tuesday (Sept. 18) for a Skyline Conference matchup versus Sarah Lawrence College

MANHATTAN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer allowed a late goal Saturday afternoon to drop a 1-0 non-conference decision to the John Jay College Bloodhounds (2-2-1) from Randall's Island in Manhattan.  The Panthers (2-5-0) entered the day with a 4-0 record versus John Jay that included a 28-0 scoring advantage.

After putting up 15 shots in the opening period, the Bloodhounds fired another 15 at Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (2-5-0) in the second half.  Kimberly Robledo broke a scoreless tie with three minutes remaining by connecting on Katie Healey's cross for the game-winning goal.

Higgins finished with a career-best 23 saves to eclipse the single-game program record of 17 set by Jennifer Kupfer (Sept. 24, 2009 vs. Farmingdale State College) and Melissa Muller (Sept. 16, 2015 vs. Rutgers-Newark).  Brittany Shaneberger (3-2-0) made two stops to earn John Jay's cleansheet.

The Bloodhounds finished with the advantage in shots (30-2), shots on goal (24-2) and corner kicks (9-0).  Cara Normile led Old Westbury's offensive efforts with two shots.

SARAH LAWRENCE COLLEGE GRYPHONS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (1-0-0 Skyline) returns home Tuesday (Sept. 18) for a Skyline Conference matchup with the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Skyline) at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.  The Panthers are 3-1 against the Gryphons since 2014.
