@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer tallies quick score against Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury continues its homestand Tuesday (Sept. 25) versus Mitchell College in non- conference action

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer allowed a trio of second-half goals Monday afternoon to drop a 3-1 Skyline Conference decision at home to the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (3-2-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) from Panther Park.  The loss moves Old Westbury (2-7-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) to 3-2-0 against Sarah Lawrence since 2014.

Old Westbury opened the scoring 2:38 in as Brianna Williams finished a one-timer from Shauna Henderson for the 1-0 lead.  The tally was a team-leading sixth goal of the season for Williams while Henderson's assist was her first career.  Sarah Lawrence put up 11 first-half shots to test Panther goalie Alexa Higgins, who totaled four saves in the opening period.

Sarah Lawrence continued to chip away by attempting seven second-half shots before a breakaway goal by Kiley Ritter from outside the box tied the game in the 73rd minute.  Higgins lost the lead in the 83rd minute as Tiffany McBrayer finished a run from Ritter to pull ahead, 2-1.  The Gryphons settled the 3-1 final with 90 seconds left as Maddie Eppler gathered a loose ball in the box for the score past Higgins.

Higgins (2-7-0) totaled 13 saves as Gryphon goalie Andi Pfau (1-0-0) made three saves to secure the win.

The Gryphons finished with the advantage in shots (30-9), shots on goal (16-4) and corner kicks (8-0).

MITCHELL COLLEGE MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (2-7-0) remains home Tuesday (Sept. 25) for a non- conference matchup with the Mitchell College Mariners (1-6-0) at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.  The Panthers defeated Mitchell last year on the road by a count of 2-1 in their first-ever meeting.
