@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer scores early to secure 1-0 triumph over Mitchell

Old Westbury travels Saturday (Sept. 29) to Farmingdale State College for a Skyline Conference matchup

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer scored early Thursday afternoon to earn a hard fought 1-0 non-conference win over the visiting Mitchell College Mariners (1-7-0) in non-conference action from Panther Park.  Old Westbury (3-7-0) has now defeated Mitchell in back-to-back seasons.

Old Westbury jumped ahead 23:47 in with a Gabby Lamanno blast from outside the box past the outstretched arms of Mariner goalie Drew Johndrow (1-7-0) for a 1-0 lead.  Lamanno's tally was the first of her career as the Panthers put up 14 first-half shots to Mitchell's five.

Neither team attempted a shot on goal in the final 45 minutes with Old Westbury holding a 5-3 edge in shots during that stretch.

Alexa Higgins (3-7-0) made four saves to register her third-career shutout as Johndrow stopped nine shots.  

The Panthers finished with the advantage in shots (19-8), shots on goal (10-4) and corner kicks (4-3).  

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (1-1-0 Skyline) travels Saturday (Sept. 29) afternoon to take on the Farmingdale State College Rams (5-2-1, 0-0-0 Skyline) in a Skyline Conference matchup at 12 p.m. from Rams Field.  Dating back to 2010, the Panthers are 0-4-0 on the road against the Rams.
