Five double-digit scorers lead @OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball to Skyline win at Purchase

Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Jan. 19) for a Skyline Conference matchup against Maritime College

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball outscored the Purchase College Panthers (7-6, 5-4 Skyline) 51-43 in the second half to claim a 92-87 Skyline Conference road win Tuesday evening inside Purchase College Gymnasium.  Old Westbury (9-6, 7-3 Skyline) are now 6-2 against Purchase dating back to the 2014-15 campaign.    

Old Westbury took the early 2-0 lead 28 seconds into the opening half off a layup by Alan McDonald.  Purchase scored five-unanswered points courtesy of Willie Britton to gain the 5-2 lead with 18:06 remaining.  Old Westbury then used a 7-2 spurt from 17:44 to 14:40 to retake a brief 9-7 lead before Purchase responded with a 14-2 run to build its advantage to double-digits (21-11) with 11:01 left.  Over the next 2:07, McDonald and Justin Alleyne-Washington combined for seven-straight points to trim Old Westbury's deficit to three points (21-18) with 8:32 showing on the first-half clock.  Marcus Richardson sank a pair of free throws at 2:16 to extend Purchase's lead to a game-high 12 points (44-32).  McDonald and Pedro Marquez teamed up for nine-unanswered points over the final 2:11 of the first half to pull within three (44-41) at intermission.

Both teams traded baskets to combine for 34 points 6:50 into the second half with Purchase maintaining the three-point edge (61-58) with 12:51 remaining.  At 12:22, Andrew Buskey's layup kickstarted an 8-3 run to regain Old Westbury's lead for good (66-64).  Maxx Miller dropped in a pair of Purchase free throws to knot the game at 66 with 9:42 left.  Old Westbury capitalized off a late 11-5 run to make it a nine-point game (89-80) before Purchase used a 7-3 run as a last surge in the final 18 seconds to settle the 92-87 final.

McDonald led all scorers with 25 points (11-of-20 FG), 10 rebounds and two blocks to post his sixth-career double-double.  Alleyne-Washington followed with 20 points (8-of-19 FG, 3-of-4 FT), 10 rebounds and three steals to register his sixth-career double-double.  Marquez chipped in 19 points (5-of-11 FG, 8-of-10 FT), seven rebounds and two steals.  Chase Johnson poured in a career-best 14 points (4-of-10 FG, 5-of-7 FT) to go along with seven rebounds (four offensive) while Buskey added 10 points (4-of-7 FG) off the bench.

Britton finished with 19 points (7-of-13 FG, 4-of-4 FT), five rebounds, five assists and two steals to pace Purchase.  Jorge Perdomo contributed 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals.  Elijah Lott scored 16 points (7-of-16 FG) and five assists while Miller netting 12 points (5-of-7 FG) off the bench.

Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 46.5 percent (33-of-71) from the field, 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from beyond the arc and 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the free-throw line.  Purchase connected on 41.9 percent (31-of-74) from the field, 27 percent (10-of-37) from three-point territory and 100 percent (15-of-15) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 46-40, scoring 22 second-chance points off 19 offensive rebounds.  Purchase outplayed Old Westbury in assists (16-13), steals (7-6), fastbreak points (10-5) and bench points (25-10).  Old Westbury held the edge in blocks (3-1) and points in the paint (48-36) while scoring 17 points off 14 Purchase turnovers.

MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Jan. 19) for a Skyline Conference showdown against the Maritime College Privateers (2-13, 1-9 Skyline) at 12 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers will look to make it two wins in a row against Maritime after falling on the road a season ago.
