Warren’s career night carries @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball to 80-56 Skyline win at Purchase

Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Jan. 19) for its non-conference finale against Baruch College

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball played with the lead for the final 29:58 Tuesday evening to collect a 80-56 Skyline Conference road win from the Purchase College Panthers (7-7, 5-4 Skyline) inside Purchase College Gymnasium.  Since the start of the 2014-15 season, Old Westbury (12-4, 6-4 Skyline) has won all eight head-to-head matchups versus Purchase.

After a 21-all stalemate in the opening quarter and both teams battling for the advantage 1:05 into the second period, Monique Joseph ignited a 12-0 run from 7:37 to 3:38 with a layup to give Old Westbury a 12-point lead (37-25).  Purchase scored five-unanswered points to trim the deficit to seven points (37-30) with 2:28 left.  Old Westbury closed out the remaining 2:17 of the second quarter with a 10-1 spurt to extend its advantage to 16 points (47-31) heading into the break.

Alexis Lopez connected from deep 53 seconds into the third stanza to kickstart Old Westbury's 21-8 scoring spree and build its cushion to a game-high 29 points (68-39) with 1:24 remaining.  With 22 seconds left, Amber Jones drained a trio of Purchase free-throws to make it a 68-42 game heading into the final quarter.  Old Westbury maintained the 20-point lead throughout the fourth to settle the 80-56 final.

Davida Warren led all scorers with a career-best 28 points (14-of-19 FG) to go along with 17 rebounds (nine offensive) and two blocks to post her 11th-career double-double (seventh of season).  Charlotte Renker followed with 18 points (8-of-12 FG, 2-of-2 FT), 15 rebounds and two blocks to record her 40th-career double-double (12th of season).  Paige Jelinek contributed 12 points (4-of-9 FG, 4-of-5 FT) and seven rebounds off the bench.

Jones finished with 14 points and a game-high nine steals to pace Purchase.  Shadai Plowden chipped in with 14 points and two steals off the bench while Dejeana Peoples added 11 points and two steals.

In the end, Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 46.5 percent (33-of-71) from the field, 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free-throw line.  Purchase connected on 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the field, 32 percent (8-of-25) from three-point territory and 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury held a +48 rebound margin (66-18) while scoring 31 second-chance points off 29 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury outplayed Purchase in assists (16-11), blocks (4-1) and points in the paint (50-8).  Purchase held the edge in steals (16-10) and fastbreak points (11-4) while scoring 17 points off 27 Old Westbury miscues.  Both teams were even in bench points (16-16).

BARUCH COLLEGE BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Saturday (Jan. 19) for its non-conference finale against the Baruch College Bearcats (4-8) at 2 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center. The Panthers won a closely played 55-53 game at Baruch a season ago.
