@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball topples Baruch in non-conference finale

Old Westbury travels next Saturday (Jan. 26) for a Skyline Conference matchup versus Farmingdale State College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball maintained a double-digit lead for the final 30:40 of play to claim a 79-39 home win over the Baruch College Bearcats (4-10) Saturday afternoon in their non-conference finale inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (13-4) have won two in a row versus Baruch dating back to the 2017-18 campaign.

Alexis Lopez's jumper opened the scoring nine seconds in to ignite Old Westbury's 9-0 run.  Baruch then used a 6-2 spurt to pull within five points (11-6) before the Panthers closed out the remaining 3:44 with a 9-2 run to push its lead to double-digits (20-8).  Charlotte Renker's three-point play at 7:47 extended Old Westbury's lead to 17 points (29-12). Milly Ye scored seven of Baruch's next nine points to trim the deficit to 10 (31-21) with 4:19 showing on the second-quarter clock.  Paige Jelinek and Phalan Smith combined for eight points during a 13-0 run over the final 3:57 that send the Panthers in control of a 44-21 game at intermission.

Playing with a 20-point cushion for the final 21:10, Old Westbury's lead blossomed to as many as 45 (75-30) with 4:54 left in regulation.  

Renker led all scorers with 22 points (8-of-14 FG, 6-of-7 FT) to go along with 14 rebounds and three blocks to post her 41st-career double-double (13th of season).  Monique Joseph followed with 20 points (10-of-17 FG), nine rebounds and three steals. Davida Warren chipped in 16 points and 19 rebounds (10 offensive) to register her 12th-career double-double (eighth of season).  Jelinek added 10 points (5-of-8 FG) and seven rebounds off the bench while Tori Bellings dished out a game-high nine assists.

Frances Snyder paced Baruch with 13 points and four steals.

Old Westbury finished the afternoon shooting 41.6 percent (32-of-77) from the field, 10 percent (1-of-10) from beyond the arc and 63.6 percent (14-of-22) from the free-throw line.  Baruch was limited to just 24.6 percent (15-of-61) from the floor, 11.1 percent (3-of-27) from three-point territory and 60 percent (6-of-10) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 67-31, while scoring 22 second-chance points off 28 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers outplayed Baruch in assists (19-8), blocks (5-2), bench points (14-11), fastbreak points (16-8) and points in the paint (58-12) while scoring 22 points off 20 Bearcat miscues. Baruch held the edge in steals (10-7).

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (6-4 Skyline) returns to the court next Saturday (Jan. 26) with a Skyline Conference road showdown against the Farmingdale State College Rams (5-12, 5-6 Skyline) at 2 p.m. inside Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.  The Panthers are 8-0 against the Rams dating back to the 2015-16 season.
