Renker’s big day leads @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball to season sweep of Farmingdale State

Old Westbury returns home Tuesday (Jan. 29) for a Skyline Conference matchup against Sarah Lawrence College

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball collected their third-straight win Saturday afternoon with a 70-57 Skyline Conference road triumph against the Farmingdale State College Rams (5-14, 5-7 Skyline) inside Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.  The Panthers (14-4, 7-4 Skyline) sweep the season series from Farmingdale State for the fourth-straight year to improve to 9-0 against the Rams since the 2015-16 campaign.

Old Westbury dominated play early as Charlotte Renker erupted for six of her 17 first-half points during a 14-2 scoring spree to open the game.  Farmingdale State responded with an 11-2 run ignited by Selena Lafranca's triple with 3:57 left to trim the deficit to three (16-13) to close out the opening stanza.  After the Panthers built a 23-15 lead, the Rams chipped away throughout the second quarter by outscoring Old Westbury by eight (20-12) in the final 7:06 of play to send a 35-all game into intermission.

Farmingdale State took its first lead of the game 29 seconds into second-half play with a Destiny Hurt free throw for a slim 36-35 advantage.  Davida Warren then scored five points during a 10-2 Panther spurt to take a 45-38 edge with 6:31 remaining in the third quarter. Moments later, Renker sank a jumper to make it a nine-point game (53-44) before the Panthers entered the fourth period with a 58-50 lead.  Playing ahead for the final 19:20, the Panthers extended their lead to a game-high 14 points (64-50) with 7:04 showing on the fourth-quarter clock as the Rams misfired on five-straight shots to open the period.

Renker led all scorers with 21 points (10-of-15 FG) and a career-best 23 rebounds to post her 42nd-career double-double (14th of season).  Warren scored 14 of her 17 points (6-of-9 FG, 5-of-7 FT) in the second half and finished with 17 rebounds to register her 13th-career double-double (ninth of season).  Monique Joseph chipped in with 14 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists (tied career-high) and four steals to record her 20th-career double-double (fifth of season). Tori Bellings dished out eight assists and Alessia Drevnyak scored nine points (4-of-6 FG) off the bench.

Hurt paced Farmingdale State with 17 points, eight rebounds and a game-high seven steals.  Nia Miller followed with 14 points and three steals.

Old Westbury finished the afternoon shooting 40 percent (28-of-70) from the field, 14.3 percent (1-of-7) from beyond the arc and 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the free-throw line.  Farmingdale State connected on 28.6 percent (22-of-77) from the floor, 22.9 percent (8-of-35) from three-point territory and 38.5 percent (5-of-13) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 77-29, scoring 17 second-chance points off 26 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers outplayed Farmingdale State in assists (22-9), fastbreak points (13-8) and points in the paint (49-26). The Rams converted 34 Panther turnovers into 25 points and held the advantage in blocks (2-0), steals (19-7) and bench scoring (15-11).
