Old Westbury travels to Bronxville, New York on Saturday (Jan. 5) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus Sarah Lawrence College

BRONX, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball opened the 2019 calendar year by claiming a 68-49 Skyline Conference win in convincing fashion over the visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (2-9, 1-5 Skyline) Thursday evening inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (10-1, 4-1 Skyline) have now won seven-straight matchups against the Dolphins dating back to the 2015-16 season.

After a 10-all stalemate in the opening quarter, Tori Bellings' layup ignited a 15-0 Panther run to build a 15-point lead (25-10) with 4:18 remaining in the half.  Trailing by double-digits for the final 26:25, Aria Rheams and Yamilersy Reyes scored back-to-back buckets to trim Mount Saint Vincent's deficit to 11 points (25-14) with 3:18 left.  Phalan Smith netted four of the next five points for Old Westbury to head into the break with a 30-16 advantage.

Rheams dropped in a layup to help Mount Saint Vincent pull within 12 points (32-20) with 8:13 showing on the third-quarter clock.  Over the next 4:16, Joseph scored six points during Old Westbury's 13-2 spurt to push its lead to 23 points (45-22) with 3:41 remaining.  Joseph scored six-straight points as part of Old Westbury's 10-2 run that opened the fourth quarter as she laid in her 1,000th-career point at the 6:44 mark to extend the lead to a game-high 27 points (59-32).  Old Westbury has now produced five 1,000-point scorers in 10 seasons.

Rheams finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds to pace Mount Saint Vincent.  Leah Pinilli contributed 12 points. Reyes added 11 points, eight rebounds and a game-high six steals while Gabriela Goldman tallied 10 points and five steals.

In the end, Old Westbury finished the game shooting 34.6 percent (28-of-81) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc and 36 percent (9-of-25) from the charity stripe.  Mount Saint Vincent was limited to just 30.3 percent (22-of-66) from the field, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from three-point territory and 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from the free-throw line.  The Panthers held a +19 rebound margin (66-47) while scoring 18 second-chance points off 34 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury outplayed Mount Saint Vincent in assists (19-5), blocks (11-2), bench points (18-4), fastbreak points (17-13) and points in the paint (38-28) while scoring 18 points off 25 Dolphin turnovers.  Mount Saint Vincent held the edge in steals (13-9).
