Old Westbury travels Tuesday (Jan. 8) to United States Merchant Marine Academy for a Skyline Conference showdown

BRONXVILLE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball held a double-digit lead for the final 35:41 of play Saturday afternoon to capture a 97-37 Skyline Conference road win over the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (0-12, 0-8 Skyline) inside Campbell Sports Center.  The Panthers (11-1, 5-1 Skyline) are now 3-0 against Sarah Lawrence since the Gryphons joined the Skyline a season ago.

Davida Warren scored back-to-back layups 51 seconds apart to give Old Westbury the early 4-0 advantage with 8:26 remaining in the opening quarter.  Tess Carrier connected from deep 15 seconds later to pull Sarah Lawrence within one (4-3). Old Westbury responded at 7:21 with Charlotte Renker's free throw that ignited a 16-1 run to build an 18-point lead (22-4) heading into the second quarter.  Renker did some more damage in the second period by scoring eight points during Old Westbury's 26-10 spurt (9:13 to 28 seconds) to send the Panthers into intermission with a 29-point lead (46-17).

Ahead by 40 points (65-25) after three periods, Old Westbury scored 32 fourth-quarter points to extend its cushion to a game-high 60 points as Paige Jelinek scored five of Old Westbury's final 10 points to settle the 97-37 final.

Monique Joseph led all scorers with 23 points (11-of-15 FG) and nabbed eight steals to total 301 for her career to pace Old Westbury.  Renker followed with 21 points (9-of-18 FG) and a game-high 17 rebounds (nine offensive) to post her 37th-career double-double (ninth of the season).  Warren contributed 17 points (6-of-12 FG), 15 rebounds, three steals and two blocks to register her ninth-career double-double (fifth of the season).  Jelinek chipped in a career-best 16 points (6-of-7 FG, 4-of-6 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds to record her third-career double-double off the bench while Tori Bellings dished out a game-leading nine assists to go along with three steals.

Taryn Penna finished with 16 points (6-of-10 FT) and six steals while Melanie Coleman pulled down six rebounds for Sarah Lawrence.

The Panthers held a season-best +49 rebound margin (69-20) while scoring 33 second-chance points off 29 offensive boards.  Old Westbury outplayed Sarah Lawrence in assists (21-8), blocks (5-1), steals (17-10), fastbreak points (12-4), bench points (26-3) and points in the paint (68-14) while scoring 41 points off 27 Gryphon turnovers.

UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Kings Point, New York on Tuesday (Jan. 8) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (9-0, 5-0 Skyline) at 5:30 p.m. inside Liebertz Gymnasium.  The Panthers will look to avenge last year's 62-61 road loss to USMMA.
