Old Westbury returns home on Saturday (Feb. 2) for a Senior Day Skyline Conference matchup against Purchase College

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball claimed a season-series sweep against the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (3-17, 2-11 Skyline) for the fifth-straight year Thursday evening with a 81-66 Skyline Conference road win inside Danzi Center.  The Panthers (16-4, 9-4 Skyline) have now won 10-consecutive games against St. Joseph's since the 2014-15 season.

Paige Jelinek scored back-to-back layups to give Old Westbury a 7-4 lead with 7:40 remaining in the opening quarter.  St. Joseph's responded with a 17-6 run over the next 6:35 to gain an eight-point advantage (21-13).  Alessia Drevnyak and Tori Bellings closed out the final 36 seconds with layups to trim Old Westbury's deficit to four (21-17) heading into the second stanza.  The Panthers scored 10-straight points to open a second quarter in which they outscored the Golden Eagles by 16 (22-6).  Jelinek stroked a jumper at 8:37 to give Old Westbury the lead for good.  St. Joseph's pulled within three points (27-24) at the 6:14 mark before Jelinek poured in eight of her 12 first-half points during a 12-3 spurt to make it a 39-27 game at the break.

Playing ahead for the final 28:37, Old Westbury extended its lead to a game-high 19 points (52-33) off Davida Warren's layup with 5:02 left in the third quarter.  Alyssa Signor scored five-straight points to slice the Golden Eagle deficit to 14 (52-38) with 3:12 remaining.  The Panthers built their lead back up to 19 before St. Joseph's scored four-unanswered points to close out the final 37 seconds of the third period trailing by 15 (59-44).  St. Joseph's turned up its intensity of the offensive end by using an 8-0 run to slice its double-digit disadvantage to seven points (59-52) with 8:31 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.  Bellings would later cap off Old Westbury's 7-0 surge to push its advantage back up to double-digits (66-52) with 5:20 left.  The Golden Eagles clawed back to pull within nine (66-57) prior to Alexis Lopez draining a triple to give Old Westbury a double-digit lead for the final 3:38.
