Men’s Soccer battles defending Skyline champion Mount Saint Mary

Old Westbury continues three-game homestand Saturday (Oct. 5) with a Skyline Conference battle versus United States Merchant Marine Academy

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer allowed three first-half goals Wednesday afternoon on the way to falling 5-0 to the two-time Skyline Conference defending champion Mount Saint Mary College Knights (6-4-1, 3-0-1 Skyline) in league home action from Panther Park.

Matt Wyant put Mount Saint Mary on the board 6:29 in by beating Panther goalie James Perciballi (3-6-1) for the game-winning goal off Connor Doyle's feed.  Doyle then connected with Christopher Maggie (28:35) and Matt Flanagan (40:22) to bury back-to-back goals as part of a three-goal surge for the Knights to send the 3-0 game into intermission.

In the 56th minute, Wyant netted home a free kick to extend the Knights' lead to four before Tyler Vermilyea's free kick found Joseph Mesoraca for a header in the box to settle the 5-0 final.  Grixon Moreira tested Knight goalie Tyler Rapp (6-4-1) with on-target shots at the 41:24 and 51:51 marks to lead Old Westbury.

Perciballi made two saves in defeat for the Panthers while Rapp sent away five shots in 75:33 minutes of action and Sean Madden faced two shots in the remaining 14:27 in net to secure the combined shutout victory.

At the end of 90 minutes, Mount Saint Mary finished with the advantage in shots (15-10), shots on goal (7-5) while Old Westbury held the edge in corner kicks (4-1).
