Men’s Soccer continues homestand with Skyline battle against USMMA

Old Westbury continues homestand Wednesday (Oct. 9) with a Skyline Conference showdown against Sarah Lawrence College

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer faced a 1-0 setback to the visiting United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (8-3-0, 5-0-0 Skyline) Saturday afternoon in Skyline Conference action from Panther Park.  Old Westbury (3-7-1, 1-4-0 Skyline) are winless against the Mariners dating back to the 2016 season.

USMMA proved to be the aggressor in the game's opening 20:57, taking five shots with three landing on target.  Brian Lopez put Old Westbury into the shot column with a shot that sailed wide at the 23:00 mark.  The Mariners found success in the 39th minute as Matt McCurnin crossed the ball into the box to Zach Lysakowski to bury the game-winning header past Panther goalie James Perciballi (3-7-1).  Michael DaSilva fired the Panthers' final shot of the half in the 43rd minute before heading into the half.

USMMA kept the attacking pressure up as the team launched seven second-half shots before settling the 1-0 final.  Rudy Salmeron took Old Westbury's lone shot of the half in the 52nd minute.

Perciballi stopped five shots while Matthew Milner (7-1-0) didn't register a save to earn the shutout win for USMMA

In the end, USMMA held the advantage in shots (15-3), shots on goal (6-0) and corner kicks (7-0)
