Men’s Soccer snaps four-game skid with Skyline win over Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury closes out its homestand and non-conference slate Saturday (Oct. 12) against Wesley College

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer snapped its four-game losing streak Wednesday afternoon by capturing a 3-0 Skyline Conference home victory over the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (5-6-1, 2-3-1 Skyline) from Panther Park.

Old Westbury (4-7-1, 2-4-0 Skyline) proved to be the aggressor in the opening 39:48 by holding a 7-3 shot advantage.  In the 42nd minute, Michael Gilligan found success as he connected with the deflected ball in the box to head home his second-career game-winning goal and send the 1-0 game into the break.

The Panthers doubled its advantage in the 87th minute as Gilligan slipped one past Gryphon goalie Matteo Ramano for the 2-0 lead.  Grixon Moreira settled the 3-0 final 1:27 later by putting away his team-leading sixth goal of the season after connecting with Jonathon Hernandez and Sergio Serna.

Panther goalie James Perciballi (4-7-1) made one save to secure his third-career shutout win.  Aaron Ashery (3-5-1) stopped four shots in 45 minutes in the net before Romano sent away two second-half shots in defeat for the Gryphons.

At the end of 90 minutes, Old Westbury won the battle in shots (14-4), shots on target (9-1) and corner kicks (5-2)
