Women’s Soccer competes strong against Mount Saint Mary

Old Westbury returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 9) to close out its non-conference slate against Mitchell College

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer dropped a 6-0 Skyline Conference home decision Tuesday afternoon to the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (5-8-0, 5-0-0 Skyline) from Panther Park.  The loss moves the Panthers (6-6-0, 1-3-0 Skyline) to 2-14-0 against the Knights dating back to 2008 and remain winless against Mount Saint Mary since 2010.

Chrissy Cannella put Mount Saint Mary on the board 1:56 in by beating Panther goalie Yakeline Umanzor (5-4-0) for the game-winning goal off Nikki Carter's cross.  Gina Rivera doubled Mount Saint Mary's advantage in the 16th minute to make it a 2-0 game.  Cannella buried her second tally in the 32nd minute after receiving feeds from Brittany Bornstad and Nicky Wurglics as part of a three-goal Knight surge.  Haley Murphy (42:04) and Maeve Ward (42:32) added to the scoring frenzy to send a 5-0 game into intermission.

Rivera settled the 6-0 final with her second goal of the game in the 67th minute after finishing a run from Liz Ellsworth.  Jessica Pedroza tested Knight goalie Cyan Scott (3-2-0) with on-target shots at the 61:11 and 63:25 marks to lead Old Westbury.

Umanzor made four saves in 45 minutes in the net before Moira Nolan sent away two-second half shots in defeat for the Panthers.  Scott stopped two shots to secure the shutout victory for Mount Saint Mary.

At the end of 90 minutes, Mount Saint Mary finished with the advantage in shots (19-4), shots on goal (12-2) and corner kicks (5-0).

Old Westbury returns to action Wednesday (Oct. 9) to close out its non-conference slate on the road against the Mitchell College Mariners at 3:30 p.m. from Alumni Field in New London, Connecticut.
