NEW YORK --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dropped a 66-62 decision Tuesday evening to the John Jay College (2-2) in non-conference road action inside The Doghouse in Manhattan. The setback moves Old Westbury (0-3) to an 1-2 mark against John Jay dating back to the 2006 campaign.
In a game that saw seven ties and four lead changes in the opening 15:47, John Jay gained the upperhand by scoring six-unanswered points to claim the 27-21 lead.
Davida Warren laid in two at the 2:25 mark to pull Old Westbury within three points before the Bloodhounds totaled four points to push the lead to seven, 32-25, heading into intermission.
19 seconds into the second half, All'aha Albright knocked down a three-pointer to extend John Jay's lead to a game-high 10 points (35-25). Warren shined by scoring nine of her 15 second-half points, part Old Westbury outscoring John Jay 22-11 in the remaining 8:00 of third-quarter play, to make it a 49-all game. With 3:16 showing on the fourth-quarter clock, the Panthers claimed a brief four-point lead (61-57) courtesy of a Warren layup. Lily Rakitzis responded at 2:57 with a layup of her own that ignited a 9-1 Bloodhound run to settle the 66-62 final.
Warren led the way with season bests of 27 points (13-of-21 FG) and 19 rebounds (10 offensive) to post her second double-double on the season (22nd career). She added three steals and two blocks to her statline.
La'Niya Clark followed with career highs of 16 points and seven assists to go with three steals.
Ashley Cattle chipped in with 14 points (7-of-16 FG), nine rebounds (six offensive) and four steals while
Ja'nya Flash pulled down 11 rebounds.
Albright finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to pace John Jay. Rakitzis and Katie Healy contributed 15 points each while Nyasha Howard nabbed four steals.
Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 37.3 percent (28-of-75) from the field, 15.4 percent (2-of-13) from beyond the arc and 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from the charity stripe. John Jay hit 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from three-point territory and 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the free-throw line. The Panthers held a +14 rebound margin (54-40) while scoring nine second-chance points off 26 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed John Jay in assists (18-14), steals (11-9), points in the paint (48-26) and fastbreak points (8-6) while scoring 12 points off 20 Bloodhound turnovers. John Jay edged Old Westbury in bench points (22-2).
