OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball opened their home slate and snapped the three-game skid Saturday afternoon with a 66-60 Skyline Conference win over the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (1-3, 0-1 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center. Old Westbury (1-3, 1-0 Skyline) are now 10-0 against St. Joseph's (L.I.) dating back to the 2014-15 season.
Old Westbury jumped out to an early 9-2 advantage with seven points coming from
Davida Warren with 2:48 remaining in the opening quarter. Megan Steinman knocked down a triple at the 1:46 mark to ignite a 7-2 run that closed out the quarter for St. Joseph's to pull within two, 11-9. Emma Lange and Steinman combined to score five-unanswered points for the Golden Eagles to take its first lead of the afternoon, 14-11, with 8:29 left in the second stanza. Both teams battled for the edge over the next 5:07 as Julianna Knice headlined St. Joseph's 8-2 spurt in the remaining 2:20 to claim the five-point lead, 30-25, heading into the break.
After a seesaw third period with six lead changes and three ties, Old Westbury regained the lead for good (41-40) with 38 second left after
Ja'nya Flash sank a free throw. Warren laid in two of her 12 fourth-quarter points that kickstarted a 12-4 run for Old Westbury to build a game-high nine-point cushion, 53-44, with 6:16 left. At the 1:01 mark, St. Joseph's got in as close as three, 63-60, off Catherine Siounis layup before
Micah Browne poured in a trio of freebies in the remaining 22 seconds to settle the 66-60 final.
Warren led the way with career bests of 30 points (13-20 FG) and 22 rebounds (15 offensive) to post her third double-double of the season (23rd career). She added three blocks (tied career-high) and steal to her statline.
Ashley Cattle followed with 10 points (5-of-10 FG), nine rebounds and two blocks. Flash added 10 ponits (3-of-4 FG, 4-of-8 FT), eight rebounds and two blocks while
La'Niya Clark dished out a game-high five assists.
Steinman finished with 15 points (4-of-9 3FG) and four assists to pace St. Joseph's. Knice chipped in with 13 points (4-of-4 FG, 3-of-3 3FG, 2-of-2 FT) while Alyssa Signor contributed 10 points and a game-high four steals.
In the end, Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 34.2 percent (25-of-73) from the field, 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from beyond the arc and 52 percent (13-of-25) from the free-throw line. St. Joseph's connected on 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field, 31.8 percent (7-of-22) from three-point territory and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury held a +25 rebound margin (61-36) while scoring 28 second-chance points off 33 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed St. Joseph's in assists (13-10), blocks (8-1) and points in the paint (42-26) while scoring 17 points off 14 Golden Eagle miscues. St. Joseph's held the edge in steals (10-3) and bench points (25-0). Both teams were even in fastbreak points (4-4).

Old Westbury travels Tuesday (Nov. 26) to Manhattan for a Skyline Conference matchup against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-4, 0-3 Skyline) at 7 p.m. inside City College of New York's Nat Holman Gymnasium.
