NEW HAVEN, CONN. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball fell 66-55 Tuesday evening to the Albertus Magnus College Falcons (6-2) in non-conference road action inside Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center in New Haven, Connecticut. The setback moves Old Westbury to a 4-5 mark on the young season.
Trailing 34-20 after 15:22 of play,
Paige Brown laid in two at the 4:44 mark to ignite an 8-0 run for Old Westbury to trim the deficit to six points, 34-28. Shyla Osmond knocked down a jumper with 1:05 remaining in the second quarter to send the 36-28 game into the break.
The Falcons remained in the driver seat at the start of the third quarter outscoring the Panthers 17-9 to claim the 53-37 lead. Rah-Rah Thompson and Katherine Raposo combined for five-unanswered points to build a game-high 21 point lead (58-37) with 7:04 showing on the fourth-quarter clock. Old Westbury put together an 18-8 spurt in the remaining 6:46 to settle the 66-55 final.
Micah Browne finished with 14 points (5-of-10 FG, 1-of-2 3FG, 3-of-3 FT), four assists, two steals and one block to pace Old Westbury. Warren followed with 10 points (4-of-9 FG, 2-of-4 FT), seven rebounds, four steals (game-high) and two blocks.
Osmond led the way with a game high 20 points (10-of-14 FG) to go with 10 rebounds and five assists (game-high) to lead the Falcons to victory. Andreah Orr chipped in with 13 points (6-of-13 FG) and a game-high 15 rebounds.
In the end, Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the field, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from beyond the arc and 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from the free-throw line. Albertus Magnus connected on 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field, 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from three-point territory and 80 percent (8-of-10) from the charity stripe. Albertus Magnus won the boards battle, 49-34, while scoring 20 second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds. Old Westbury outplayed Albertus Magnus in steals (11-9) and blocks (5-3). The Falcons held the edge in points in the paint (36-32) while scoring 24 points off 20 Panther miscues. Both teams were even in assists (11-11), fastbreak points (6-6) and bench points (13-13).
