RIVERDALE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball three-game win streak was snapped Thursday evening with a 55-45 setback against the College of Mount Saint Mary Vincent Dolphins (5-2, 3-1 Skyline) in Skyline Conference road action inside Peter Jay Sharp Center in Riverdale, New York. The Panthers (3-4, 3-1 Skyline) move to a 9-2 mark against the Dolphins dating back to the 2015-16 season.
Trailing 18-8 heading into the second quarter,
Ashley Cattle opened the stanza with a layup to ignite a 7-2 run for Old Westbury to trim the deficit to five points (20-15) with 7:06 remaining. Mount Saint Vincent responded with a 7-1 spurt from 6:25 to 52 seconds, kickstarted by Dez Brown single free throw, to grow its lead back up to double-digits, 27-16. With 36 seconds left, a
Ja'nya Flash jumper sent the Panthers into the break down by nine points, 27-18.
Micah Browne connected from deep 1:29 into third-quarter play that started an 8-3 surge for Old Westbury to get in close as four (30-26) with 4:51 left. The Dolphins used the next 2:52 to put together an 11-2 run and build a game-high 13-point cushion (41-28), before
Davida Warren laid in two to send the 41-30 game into the final quarter. Behind by 13 points and 6:39 showing on the fourth-quarter clock, Cattle scored four of the Panthers' six-straight points from 6:29 to 4:47 to pull within seven points, 48-41. Mount Saint Vincent closed out the remaining 4:26 outscoring Old Westbury 7-4 to settle the 55-45 final.
Cattle led the way with 15 points (7-of-8 FT) to go with five rebounds and two steals. Warren followed with 12 points (6-of-11 FT) and a game-high 14 rebounds (eight offensive) to post her sixth double-double (26th career).
La'Niya Clark nabbed three steals.
DarNeisha Brice finished with 14 points, four assists and a game-high four steals to pace Mount Saint Vincent. Aria Rheams chipped in 11 points (7-of-12 FT) and nine rebounds while Brown poured in 11 points (5-of-8 FG) and pulled down 12 rebounds.
The Panthers shot 25.9 percent (14-of-54) from the field, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from three-point territory and 64 percent (16-of-25) from the free-throw line. Mount Saint Vincent connected on 40 percent (20-of-50) from the floor, 40 percent (6-of-15) from beyond the arc and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the charity stripe. Mount Saint Vincent won the boards battle, 40-36, scoring nine second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds. The Panthers outplayed Mount Saint Vincent in steals (1-6), blocks (1-0), fastbreak points (15-0) and points in the paint (22-20) while scoring 20 points off 19 Dolphin turnovers. Mount Saint Vincent finished with the advantage in assists (13-5) and bench points (8-4).
