Five double-digit scorers steer @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball past St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn), 84-75

Old Westbury registered its fourth-straight 20-win season and will look to defend its title as the No. 3 seed during next week’s Skyline Conference Championship

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon in Brooklyn with a 84-75 Skyline Conference win over the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (16-9, 12-6 Skyline) inside The Hill Center.  The Panthers (20-5, 13-5 Skyline) are now 9-1 against the Bears since the 2014-15 campaign. Old Westbury will defend its league title as the No. 3 seed in next week's Skyline Conference Championship starting Tuesday (Feb. 19) with a first-round home game against sixth-seeded Farmingdale State College.  The Skyline Conference will announce the official seeds later tonight.

Davida Warren scored four of Old Westbury's nine points to open the game with a seven-point advantage (9-2).  The Panthers scored six-straight points to go up by 11 before both teams traded baskets to maintain Old Westbury's 25-14 lead heading into the second period.  Leading by as many as 15 points (35-20) in the first half off Charlotte Renker's layup with 3:35 remaining to intermission, St. Joseph's outscored the Panthers 8-4 over the final 3:22 to cut its deficit to 11 (39-28) at the break.

The Panthers got off to a slow second-half start by shooting just 2-of-12 from the floor as St. Joseph's used a 14-4 run to pull within one (43-42) with 5:10 showing on the third-quarter clock.  Holding a 55-51 lead heading into the fourth period, Old Westbury went up by as many as 11 points (79-68) off a pair of Tori Bellings free throws with 26 seconds remaining. The Panthers made eight free throws in the final minute to secure the nine-point win.

After registering her 15th double-double of the season (19th career) with 10 points and 12 rebounds in the first half, Warren finished the game with 21 points and 17 boards.  Bellings tied a career high with 19 points and added eight assists and two steals to her statline. Monique Joseph chipped in 17 points (7-of-14 FG), 11 rebounds and three steals to post her sixth double-double of the season (21st-career).  Renker totaled 15 points, 16 rebounds, three blocks and two steals to produce her 46th-career double-double (18th of season) while Alexis Lopez contributed 12 points to the victory.

Victoria Porcasi led all scorers with 25 points (11-of-24 FG) to pace St. Joseph's.  Kelly O'Donnell followed with 21 points (7-of-11 FG) and a game-high four blocks. Lauren Quesada added 10 points and 11 rebounds while Caitlyn Staab scored 10 points.

The Panthers shot 37.3 percent (28-of-75) from the field, 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from three-point territory and 64.9 percent (24-of-37) from the free-throw line.  St. Joseph's connected on 42 percent (29-of-69) from the floor, 32 percent (8-of-25) from beyond the arc and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 57-36, scoring 20 second-chance points off 27 offensive rebounds. The Panthers outplayed St. Joseph's in assists (18-13), steals (10-8) and points in the paint (42-30) while scoring 13 points off 14 Bear turnovers.  St. Joseph's held the edge in blocks (6-4), bench points (9-0) and fastbreak points (14-8).
