PURCHASE, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball put up 53 second-half points Thursday afternoon in Purchase, New York to fuel a 91-74 Skyline Conference Championship first-round win over the sixth-seeded Mount Saint Mary Knights (14-12) inside Purchase College Gymnasium.  With the win, the Panthers (16-10) advance to the Skyline semifinals for the fifth time in six seasons and will travel Friday (Feb. 22) to Manhattan to take on the second-seeded Yeshiva University Maccabees (18-7) at 12 p.m. inside Max Stern Athletic Center in Manhattan.  Old Westbury owns a 3-1 postseason mark against Yeshiva dating back to the 2003-04 season. The Maccabees swept the season series and have won the last three home matchups versus Old Westbury.

Meeting in the postseason for the first time since the 2004 Skyline Championship game, both teams shot 50 percent or better from the field during a sharp-shooting first-half that saw 15 lead changes.  With a combined 21 miscues in the opening period, the two teams each scored 13 points off turnovers. Justin Alleyne-Washington accounted for Old Westbury's first-10 points to stake the Panthers a 10-8 lead.  The Knights used a 7-3 spurt to go up by five (15-10) with 12:17 left. The Panthers would later go on an 11-2 run over the course of 3:28 to grab a 24-20 lead with 8:01 remaining. Mount Saint Mary outscored Old Westbury by three (17-14) to close out the final 7:49 to trail 38-37 at intermission.

Connor Bacci opened the second-half scoring with a three-pointer 15 seconds in to tie the game at 40 for Mount Saint Mary.  Old Westbury answered with 16 unanswered points as Alleyne-Washington erupted for seven to give the Panthers a 54-40 advantage with 14:35 remaining.  Bacci would later score five of the Knights' eight points as part of an 8-2 run to get as close as nine (60-51) at the 12:10 mark. The Panthers hit 7-of-9 from the field during a stretch of 7:45 to put the game away with a key 22-8 scoring spree leading to a game-high 23-point lead (82-59) with 4:25 showing on the clock.
