@OW_Panthers Baseball battles Kean

Old Westbury continues its 17-game road trip on March 6 against College of New Rochelle

UNION, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball fell behind early Friday afternoon and were unable to recover in a 17-3 non-conference decision to the Kean University Cougars (4-1) from Jim Hynes '63 Stadium in Union, New Jersey.  The Panthers (0-2) entered winners of the last three decisions against Kean dating back to the 2016 season.

Panther starter Patrick Quinn (L, 0-1: 0.2 IP, 9 ER, 2 H, 6 BB) handed out free passes to three of his first-five batters faced to walk in the game's initial run.  Michael Lapczynski then clubbed a three-run double that platted home Nick Polizzano for what proved to be the game-winning score. In total, Kean posted 10 runs in the first inning and tacked on another six in the second frame off Quinn and relievers Steven Tellerias (0.1 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 3 BB) and Alipio Tiburcio (1 IP, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 H, BB).

Old Westbury got to Cougar starter RJ Jobin (W, 1-0: 5.0 IP, ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K) in the third stanza with a two-out single by Brandon Wilson (1-for-3, RBI) to score Sean Paprocki (1-for-4, R), who reached base on a single two batters earlier.   

The Panthers scored two runs in the sixth inning off reliever Kyle Piekarz (2 IP, 2 ER, H, BB).  Peter Capel (1-for-4, R) slapped a lead-off double and scored three batters later on a Shaun Kaminski grounded out.  Brandon DiMauro then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to push Drew Robertson (0-for-2, R, 2 BB) across to make it a 16-3 game.

Kean settled the 17-3 final in the eighth inning with a Zachary Marzano (3-for-5, 4 RBI, 2 R) RBI triple off reliever Joshua Cruz (1 IP, ER, BB, 3 K).

Old Westbury pitchers combined to allow 15 earned run on 11 hits and 14 walks while fanning eight batters.  At the plate, Kean held the edge in hits (11-5) and extra-base knocks (5-1) while stranding 10 runners compared to Old Westbury's six.

COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its 17-game road trip on March 6 when they travel to Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York for a 7 p.m. non-conference tilt against the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels (0-1).
