@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse scores early in home opener against Drew

Old Westbury remains home Saturday (Mar. 16) with a non-conference showdown against Wilkes University

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse opened their home schedule Wednesday afternoon with a 21-1 setback against the Drew University Rangers (6-0) in non-conference action from Panther Park.  The Panthers (1-3) move to 0-6 all-time versus Drew.

Jenna Draney broke the scoring ice 1:29 in to give Drew the early 1-0 lead.  Alessia Drevnyak responded with her sixth goal of the season for Old Westbury to knot the game at one with 25:37 remaining in the opening half.  Charly Nolting produced the game-winning goal 27 second later to put the Rangers up 2-1.  Drew scored the next 10 goals over the final 24:27 to send a 12-1 game into intermission.

The Rangers tacked on nine goals in the second half to settle the 21-1 final.

Tazmeya Allen (1-3) made 12 saves in defeat for Old Westbury as Kat Michalski (6-0) turned away four shots to secure Drew's win.

Drew finished with the advantage in shots (39-8), shots on goal (33-5), ground balls (23-9), draw controls (15-9) and caused turnovers (14-4).

Natasha Treuman controlled a career-best eight draws while Yaritza Caraballo scooped up three ground balls.

Lauren Cassella scored a game-high five goals while Mia Campanale followed with four to lead Drew.

WILKES UNIVERSITY COLONELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Mar. 16) with a non-conference showdown against the Wilkes University Colonels (2-1) at 1 p.m. from Panther Park.  The Panthers enter with a 2-4 all-time mark against Wilkes.
