Old Westbury returns home Friday (Mar. 29) for a Skyline Conference showdown against Yeshiva University

BROOKLYN, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball opened their road portion of the 2019 Skyline Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon with 20-0 and 13-5 losses to the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (7-6, 4-0 Skyline) from Gil Hodges Field in Brooklyn.  The Panthers (5-6, 0-4 Skyline) are now 3-5 against St. Joseph's since the Bears joined the conference in 2016.

Game 1 (5 Inn.): St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 20, Old Westbury 0
The Bears scored 11 runs in the opening inning on starter Nicole Baron (L, 4-4: 4 IP, 22 H, 20 R, 15 ER, 3 BB, 5 K) to put the game away.  Victoria Mahoney (4-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 R) stroked a leadoff single and scored two batters later on a Alexis Buchanan (4-for-5, 2 R, RBI) RBI single to plate the game-winning run.  St. Joseph's connected on five-straight run-scoring singles to extend the lead to eight as part of the nine-hit frame.

The Bears cracked nine of the team's 22 hits during an eight-run second frame to build a 19-0 lead.

Samantha Arcese collected Old Westbury's lone hit of the game with a single to start the second inning off Bear starter Victoria Mahoney (W, 4-3: 3 IP, H, BB, 5 K).
The Panthers had a base runner in the third as Mallory Moretti drew a leadoff walk.  In the fourth, Johanna Metz was hit by the pitch and stole second before St. Joseph's proceeded to retire the next-six batters to secure the run rule victory.

Game 2 (5 Inn.): St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) 13, Old Westbury 5
Old Westbury jumped ahead in the first inning with run support for starter Samantha Arcese (L, 0-1: 4 IP, 11 H, 13 R, 9 ER, 8 BB).  Amanda Neenan, Kristin Grieshaber and Metz singled to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Lillian Chiauzzo singled home Grieshaber for the game's opening run on starter Jessica Mecham (ND: 1.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 K).

The Panthers then added three runs in the second fame as Metz slapped a two-run double to round home Jennifer Lobody and Amanda Neenan to end Mecham's outing.  Jessica Schwartz reached on a fielding error by Buchanan to plate home Grieshaber to close out the top half scoring.

The Bears chipped away in the bottom of the second frame with Vanessa Quigley scoring off Nicole Quintana's RBI single to put St. Joseph's on the board.

St. Joseph's took control of the game during a third inning that saw 11 Bears cross the plate.  Trailing 4-3, Quintana singled to score Ashleigh Hartwig and Vanessa Quigley for the game-winning runs to give St. Joseph's a 5-4 lead.

Old Westbury added a single run in the fourth inning courtesy of Arcese's RBI double off Mahoney (ND: 2 IP, H, R, 0 ER, 2 K) to make it a 12-5 game.

Madison Erhardt (W, 1-1: BB, 3 K) tossed 1.2 innings of no-hit relief to earn the Bears' win.
