@OW_Panthers Softball takes two from Yeshiva in Skyline sweep

Old Westbury travels Saturday (Mar. 30) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against Farmingdale State College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball returned home Friday to register 14-10 and 12-8 Skyline Conference wins against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-12, 0-6 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The sweep improves the Panthers (7-6, 2-4 Skyline) to 8-0 all-time versus Yeshiva.

Game 1: Old Westbury 14, Yeshiva 10
Old Westbury jumped ahead with single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead on starter Samantha Cohen (L, 0-7: 11 H, 14 R, 8 ER, 5 BB, K).  Amanda Neenan (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB) scored the game's initial run on a Johanna Metz (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) sacrifice fly in the opening frame while Jessica Schwartz (3-for-4, 2 R, 3B, 2B) scored in the second inning on a throwing error by third baseman Channa Weinberg.

Yeshiva answered with a pair of unearned runs off starter Samantha Arcese (W, 1-1: 5 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 5 K) to tie the game in the second.  Old Westbury replied in the bottom of the frame with four runs as Metz, Arcese (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 R) and Nicole Baron (1-for-3, 3 RBI) contributed run-scoring singles to make it a 6-2 game.

Both teams combined to score 13 runs in the fourth as Old Westbury regained the lead to take a 14-7 advantage.  Schwartz scored the game-winning run off Isabel Febo's one-out RBI single that made it a four-run contest (11-7).

Yeshiva scored one in the fifth to end Arcese's outing as reliever Lillian Chiauzzi (H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) took over to surrender two runs in 1.1 innings before Baron retired two batters to lock down her first-career save.  Old Westbury collected its first save since Nicole DeCola preserved the April 22, 2016 win versus Sarah Lawrence College.

Game 2: Old Westbury 12, Yeshiva 8
Yeshiva broke the scoring ice in the second inning with a Basya Goldstein (2-for-5, 2 RBI) RBI single off Neenan (ND: 3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 2 K), who got the starting nod in the circle for the Panthers.  Old Westbury responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame sparked by Chana Boltox (L, 0-5: 6 IP, 5 H, 12 R, 7 ER, 15 BB) wild pitches to advance Schwartz (2-for-5, 2 R) and Mallory Moretti across home plate for a 2-1 lead.  Metz (1-for-1, 4 RBI, R, 4 BB) would later put Old Westbury up by three (4-1) with a two-run single.

The Maccabees fired back to take a 5-4 lead in the third.  Old Westbury then tied it in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice bunt by Moretti to score Schwartz.

After Yeshiva scored three runs off Baron (W, 5-4: 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, ER, 5 K), the Panthers answered back with a five-run fifth to jump in front, 10-8.  Febo and Jennifer Lobody (0-for-0, 3 R, 2 BB) scored on free passes followed by Arcese (1-for-4, 4 RBI, 2B, BB) putting Old Westbury up for good with a three-run double to score Baron (1-for-2, RBI, R, 2 BB) for the game-winning run.

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels Saturday (Mar. 30) to take on the Farmingdale State College Rams (2-12, 2-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m as part of a Skyline Conference doubleheader from Rams Field In Farmingdale, New York.
