@OW_Panthers Baseball battles New Jersey City

Old Westbury concludes its three-game road trip Saturday (Mar.30) with a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

JERSEY CITY, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball dropped a 15-6 non-conference road decision to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (8-4) Thursday afternoon from TM Gerrity Athletic Complex.  The Panthers (5-8-1) are now winless in the last seven matchups against the Gothic Knights dating back to the 2013 campaign.

Old Westbury starter Mike Homan (L, 0-2: 2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB) received run support early with Peter Capel (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) slapping a two-out RBI double to left center to score John Condon (2-for-4, R, 2B) for the 1-0 lead.  Condon reached base with a double to keep the opening inning alive.

Rick Voss (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) launched a two-run homer over the right field fence to ignite a four-run Gothic Knight second inning to take the 4-1 lead and end Homan's day.

The Panthers sliced the deficit to two runs (4-2) in the third inning as Drew Robertson (1-for-4, R, 3B) clubbed a leadoff triple and later scored off a sacrifice fly by Brandon Wilson on starter Anthony Zicaro (W, 1-0: 6 IP, 4 R, 2 ER, BB, 7 K).

New Jersey City added a run in the fourth to push its advantage to three runs (5-2) off reliever Steven Tellerias (ND: 3 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 K).

Old Westbury scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to pull within one run (5-4).  Sean Paprocki (1-for-5, R) led off the fifth with a single to extend his hitting streak to nine games and plated home off Matt Daulton's (1-for-2, R, RBI, BB) RBI single.  Gothic Knight second baseman Tom Pulcine made two fielding miscues for Shaun Kaminski to score off of in the sixth stanza.

The Gothic Knights went up 12-4 by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth on relievers Tellerias and Mike Abagnale.  Nick LoGatto's (1-for-5, R, 2 RBI, SB) two-RBI single brought home Anthony Palmisano and Pulcine for what proved to be the game-winning run and conclude Tellerias' outing.

New Jersey City tacked on one run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth off relievers Jalen Bertie and Vinny Trovato.

Trailing 15-4 with one out in the top of the ninth, Daulton scored off a fielding error by shortstop LoGatto followed by a Joshua Cruz sacrifice fly to score Nic Labiento and settle the 15-6 final.

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (L.I.)
