Quinn spins gem to lead @OW_Panthers Baseball in Skyline sweep at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

Old Westbury returns home Sunday (Mar. 31) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball closed out a three-game road trip Saturday afternoon in Patchogue, New York with 13-0 and 4-1 wins against the defending Skyline Conference champions St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (8-9, 2-4 Skyline) from Gregg Alfano Field.  The Panthers (7-9-1, 4-2 Skyline) are now 17-6 against the Golden Eagles dating back to the 2011 season.

Game 1 (8 Inn.): Old Westbury 13, St. Joseph's 0
Old Westbury struck first with the game's initial run in the first inning as John Condon (4-for-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 2-2B) doubled down the left field line to score Mike Manetta (2-fo-3, 2 R, RBI, BB) for the game-winning run off starter Tim Woodford (L, 2-1: 3 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 K).

The Panthers added three runs on the board in the third to extend their lead to four (4-0).  With one down, Peter Capel (1-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2B) slapped a two-run double to plate home Manetta and Condon and then scored on a Shaun Kaminski (3-for-5, R, 3 RBI, 2B, SB) RBI double to end Woodford's outing.

Old Westbury took advantage of two errors in the fifth to advance two runs across and then took a 8-0 lead in the sixth with Condon's double to drive Brandon Wilson (1-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB) in before rounding home off Kaminski's single.

Sean Paprocki (1-for-4, R) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a single to load Old Westbury's bases on reliever Elliot Robles (0.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB).  Manetta's sacrifice fly then scored him to ignite a five-run Panther seventh inning to settle the 13-0 run rule victory.

Panther starter Patrick Quinn (W, 1-2: 7 IP) tied a career high with seven strikeouts (two walks) and scattered first and sixth inning singles to Tyler Sanderson (2-for-3) en route to earning his first-career complete game shutout.

Game 2: Old Westbury 4, St. Joseph's 1
Old Westbury took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on starter Kevin Czeczotka (L, 0-2: 6.1 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K) with a sacrifice fly by Capel (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2B) to drive in Wilson (2-for-3, 3 R, 2B) to open the scoring.  St. Joseph's responded bottom frame as Jesse Nakashian (1-for-2, RBI) singled to left field to score Sanderson for the equalizer.

After a scoreless three innings, Old Westbury broke the 1-1 draw in the fifth inning courtesy of Capel slapping a two-out RBI double to round Wilson home for the game-winning run.

The Panthers tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh, highlighted by Capel's run-scoring single to settle the 4-1 final.

St. Joseph's tested Panther starter Christian Tessitore (W, 2-2: 7 IP, 5 H, R) with its final attempt to keep the seventh inning alive.  Gehrig Montoro (2-for-3, SB) moved into scoring position, sitting at third with two outs on the board, before Tessitore fired his fourth strikeout of the game to secure his first-career complete game win.
