Treuman’s seven-goal attack propels @OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse past Albertus Magnus, 16-4

Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday (Mar. 9) for a non-conference tilt against Manhattanville College

NEW HAVEN, CT --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse scored eight-unanswered goals Wednesday afternoon en route to claiming a 16-4 non-conference road win against the Albertus Magnus College Falcons (0-1) from Celentano Field in New Haven, Connecticut.

Natasha Treuman broke the scoring ice 1:19 in to give Old Westbury (1-1) the early 1-0 lead.  The Panthers then doubled their advantage 45 seconds later courtesy of Yaritza Caraballo's first goal of the season.  Treuman provided a feed to Hope Matthews to net one past Falcon goalie Lexie Fenn (0-1) before taking it by herself at the 13:23 mark to extend the lead to four (4-0).  Monique Joseph added to the scoring frenzy a minute later with her first-career goal, which proved to be the game-winner (5-0).  Matthews scored two-straight to record her first-career hat trick before Treuman finished off Old Westbury's eight-goal tear with 3:07 left in the stanza to register the 29th hat trick of her career.  Faced with an eight-goal deficit, Sabrina Pohlig put one past Panther goalie Tazmeya Allen (1-1) to make it a seven-score game (8-1) with 1:26 remaining.  Alessia Drevnyak closed out the first-half scoring with nine seconds left to bury her first-career goal for Old Westbury's 9-1 advantage at intermission.

Treuman scored three of Old Westbury's four-straight goals past Falcon netminder Grace Vestro in the opening 6:31 of the second half to extend the lead to double-digits (13-1).  Pohlig responded with a goal at 18:50 before the Panthers tacked on three more scores from 16:52 to 11:30 to build a game-high 14-goal cushion (16-2).  Albertus Magnus netted home two goals over the final 8:33 to settle the 16-4 final.

Allen made seven saves to record her first-career win while Fenn sent away seven first-half shots and Vestro stopped one shot for Albertus Magnus.

Old Westbury finished with the advantage in shots (25-14), assists (6-1), ground balls (21-19), draw controls (12-10) and caused turnovers (11-9).

Treuman led the way with seven goals (11 shots), two assists, four draw controls, four ground balls and three turnovers.  Along with her three goals, Matthews dished out two assists, scooped up three ground balls, caused two turnovers and won two draw controls.  Joseph chipped in with two goals, three ground balls and one assist.  Caraballo added five ground balls and three caused turnovers while Drevnyak finished with two goals and two caused turnovers.  Jessica Pedroza controlled five draws.

Pohlig paced Albertus Magnus with two goals.  Korina Zelaya followed with one goal, five ground balls, two caused turnovers and two draw controls while Kaitlin D'Agostino contributed a game-high six draw controls in addition to one goal and three ground balls.

MANHATTANVILLE COLLEGE VALIANTS UP NEXT FOR PANTHERS: Old Westbury concludes its three-game road trip Saturday (Mar. 9) against the Manhattanville College Valiants (1-0) in Purchase, New York.  Opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m. at GoValiants.com Field with the Panthers entering with an 0-3 all-time mark versus Manhattanville.
