@OW_Panthers Baseball battles Farmingdale State in Skyline doubleheader

Old Westbury continues homestand Sunday (Apr. 14) with a Skyline Conference twinbill against United States Merchant Marine Academy

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball dropped 3-2 and 13-2 Skyline Conference decisions Saturday afternoon against the Farmingdale State College Rams (22-6, 11-1 Skyline) from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.  The Panthers (14-12-1, 9-5 Skyline) is now 4-8 in regular-season play versus Farmingdale State dating back to the 2014 campaign.

Game 1: Farmingdale State 3, Old Westbury 2
Farmingdale State broke the scoring ice with the game's initial run in the second inning off starter Patrick Quinn (ND: 7 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 6 K).  Vincent Rice (2-for-3, 3 R, SB) was hit by a pitch and advanced into scoring position after stealing second base.  Two batters later, Rice scored off a Vincent Napolitano (1-for-3, 2 RBI) single for the early 1-0 lead.

The Rams put a single run on the board to double its advantage in the fourth inning.

Old Westbury broke into the scoring column with two runs scored in the sixth inning on starter Matthew Constantine (ND: 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R).  John Condon (3-for-4, R, 2B, RBI) doubled to right center to push Brandon Wilson (2-for-4, 2B) across home plate to pull within one.  Condon then scored the equalizer (2-2) off Peter Capel's (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) double to conclude Constantine's outing.

Farmingdale State benefited from scoring an unearned run in the eighth frame as Michael Amandola's single drove in Rice for the game-winning run on reliever Joe Sarni (L, 2-2, 2 IP, 4 H, R, K) to settle the 3-2 final.

Ram reliever Anthony Visconte (W, 3-2: 3 IP) fired two strikeouts and scattered a seventh inning single to Joshua Cruz to secure the win.

Game 2: Farmingdale State 13, Old Westbury 2
Farmingdale State struck first with four runs in the second inning on starter Christian Tessitore (L, 3-3: 5 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K) highlighted by Tyler Schrimpf's (1-for-2, 2 RBI, SB) two-run single that drove in Cam Alfano (1-for-2, R, RBI) and Shawn Blasberg (2-for-3, R, RBI, 2 SB) for the game-winning runs.

The Rams would go on to score single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to build a six run cushion (6-0) and end Tessitore's day.

Old Westbury put one on the board in the sixth on starter Steven Burke (W, 3-0: 6.1 IP, 4 H, R, 4 K).  Mike Manetta (1-for-3, R, RBI) slapped a leadoff single to left field before rounding home off a Capel ground out to first baseman Morgan McCarthy to slice the deficit to five (6-1).

Farmingdale State tacked on seven runs in the seventh inning on relievers Cruz and William Amendola to put the game out of reach.

Old Westbury threatened relievers Tyler Leap and Anthony Pristera to keep the bottom frame alive.  With one-out and bases loaded, Manatta used a sacrifice fly out to center field to advance Matt Daulton (1-for-1, 2B) home.  Pristera then induced pinch hitter Zach Liotta to fly out to center field to settle the 13-2 final.

Condon singled up the middle in the fourth inning off Burke to extend his hitting streak to seven games as Matt Bohenek fanned two batters in one inning of relief.

UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its nine-game homestand Sunday (Apr. 14) with a Skyline Conference twinbill against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (21-8, 11-3 Skyline) at 11 a.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers enter Sunday's matchup with a 5-4 mark against the Mariners dating back to the 2012 season.
