Condon extends hitting streak in @OW_Panthers Baseball road play at Baruch

Old Westbury travels to New Rochelle Friday (Apr. 19) for a non-conference showdown against College of New Rochelle

BROOKLYN, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball faced a 12-9 non-conference road setback Tuesday afternoon against the Baruch College Bearcats (12-13) from MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York.  The Panthers (15-14-1) is now 16-4-1 versus the Bearcats since 2006.

Panther starter Alipio Tiburcio (L, 0-1: 2 IP, R, 2 BB, K) induced a second inning Gerardo Roque ground out to drive in Kemal Deljanin (2-for-4, 3 R, RBI, 2 SB) for the game's initial run.  In total, Baruch posted five runs in the third inning and tacked on an insurance run in the fourth frame off relievers Vinny Negri (0.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB) and Matt Bohenek (2.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 K) for the 7-0 lead.

Old Westbury got to Bearcat starter Angel Acevedo (W, 1-1: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 4 BB, 5 K) in the fifth stanza as John Condon (3-for-4, R, 4 RBI, 2-2B) extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a two-run double to score Sean Paprocki (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, SB) and Brandon Wilson (3-for-6, R, SB).

The Panthers scored four runs in the sixth inning off relievers Matthew Lawlor (0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, K) and JP Ramirez (1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, K).  John Dastagirzada (1-for-5, R, RBI, 3B) slapped a RBI triple to center field to plate Nic Labiento before scoring off Lawlor's wild pitch.  Condon delivered a two-out single on Ramirez to push across Paprocki and Mike Manetta (2-for-4, R, BB, 2 SB) to make it a 7-6 game.

Baruch replied in the bottom frame with four runs scored highlighted by Liam O'Gara (2-for-4, R, 3 RBI, 2B) three-run double to advanced Conor McCabe (2-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB), Deljanin and Jorge Mercado (4-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI) home for the game-winning runs and conclude Bohenek's outing.  O'Gara then scored off reliever Joshua Cruz's (2 IP, H, R, 2 ) wild pitch to build the five-run advantage.

Trailing 11-6, Old Westbury battled by using a two-run seventh and added a single run in the eighth on Ramirez and reliever Nicholas D'Angelo (S, 1: 2.2 IP, 4 H, R, 3 K) to slice the deficit to two runs (11-9).  Baruch benefited from scoring an unearned run on reliever Joe Sarni (1 IP, 2 H, R, 2 K) in the eighth as Mercado rounded home off a throwing miscue by Manetta to settle the 12-9 final.

COLLEGE OF NEW ROCHELLE BLUE ANGELS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to New Rochelle, New York Friday (Apr. 19) for a non-conference showdown against the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels (3-21) at 2 p.m. from Flowers Park.  The Panthers and the Blue Angels will be meeting for the first-time in program history.
