PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball scored two runs in the ninth inning Wednesday afternoon in Purchase, New York to rally past the Manhattanville College Valiants (10-9) with a 9-8 non-conference road win from Manhattanville Field. The Panthers (9-10-1) are now 4-3 against the Valiants dating back to the 2012 campaign.

Old Westbury broke the scoring ice in the first inning with a Peter Capel (2-for-3, R, 3 RBI, 2 BB, 2B) three-run double before scoring on a Shaun Kaminski sacrifice fly off Valiant starter Matt Galyas (ND: 0.1 IP, 3, H, 4 R, 3 BB).

Manhattanville put together a five-run third inning as starter Jason Espinal (ND: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 3 BB, 3 K) and reliever Matt Bohenek (1.1 IP, H, BB) combined to hit two batsmen and dealt a pair of walks to allow four-consecutive Valiants to score for their 5-4 lead.

Trailing 5-4, Michael Borsch (2-for-5, RBI) and Mike Manetta (4-for-4, R, RBI, BB, 2-2B) contributed fifth-inning RBI singles to jump Old Westbury back in front 7-5.

After two scoreless innings of play, reliever William Amendola (W, 1-1: 1 IP, 2 H) surrendered a pair of RBI singles in the eighth inning to give way to Manhattanville's 8-7 advantage.

With one out in the ninth, Vinny Trovato (2-for-4, 2 RBI) slapped a two-run single off reliever Rami Masani (1 IP, H, K) to score pinch runner Nic Labiento and Kaminski for the game-winning runs.

In the bottom half of the ninth, reliever Joshua Cruz handed out a leadoff walk to Hathaway Roper before inducing three-straight outs to preserve Old Westbury's win while notching his first save of the season (eighth career).

Reliever Danny Meduri (L, 1-2: 0.0 IP, BB) was saddled with Manhattanville's loss after allowing two runs (one earned) in the ninth.

MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens a nine-game homestand starting Saturday (Apr. 6) with a Skyline Conference doubleheader against the Maritime College Privateers (15-8, 6-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex, part of NCAA Division III Week. The Panthers enter Saturday's matchup with an 18-9 mark against Maritime since 2006.
