@OW_Panthers Softball battles Mount Saint Mary in Skyline doubleheader

Old Westbury remains on campus Sunday (Apr. 7) for a Skyline Conference Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer Senior Day doubleheader against College of Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball faced 14-0 and 4-2 Skyline Conference setbacks Saturday afternoon to the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (7-13, 6-0 Skyline) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers (9-10, 2-8 Skyline) move to 2-7 against the Knights dating back to the 2011 campaign.

Game 1: Mount Saint Mary 14, Old Westbury 0
Mount Saint Mary struck first in the opening inning as Bridget Bennett's (1-for-1, R, 4 RBI, 2 BB, 2B, SB) sacrifice fly drove in Amanda Almodovar (1-for-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB, 3 SB) for the game-winning run on starter Samantha Arcese (L, 1-2: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 13 R, 15 BB, 3 K).

The Knights tacked on three runs in the second and third inning to build its lead to seven (7-0).

Mount Saint Mary put the game out of reach with a six-run fourth inning to end Arcese's outing.  The Knights added a single run in the fifth on reliever Lillian Chiauzzi (1.1 IP, H, R, 4 BB) to secure the 14-0 run-rule victory.

Old Westbury threatened in the fourth inning with a trio of one-out singles courtesy of Jessica Schwartz (1-for-1, 2 BB), Nicole Baron (1-for-3), and Arcese (1-for-2) to load the bases, but were unable to capitalize on Knight starter Bennett (W, 2-2: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 9 K) as the Panthers stranded three runners on base.

Game 2: Mount Saint Mary 4, Old Westbury 2
The Knights put the game's initial run on the board in the first inning with a Morgan O'Neill RBI single to right center to plate home Almodovar (2-for-4, R, SB) on starter Baron (L, 7-7: 7 IP, 8 H, 4 R, ER, 3 BB, 5 K).

Old Westbury broke into the scoring column with two runs scored in the first frame on starter Christen Hansen (W, 1-2: 5 IP, 2 R, 2 BB, 5 K).  Mallory Moretti (1-for-3, R, RBI) slapped a run-scoring triple to knot the game at one and later scored off Arcese's sacrifice fly to give the Panthers the 2-1 advantage.

Nicolette Moustouka (2-for-4, R, RBI, SB) took advantage of a fielding miscue by first baseman Amanda Neenan to score the equalizer in the third inning.

Mount Saint Mary broke the two-all tie pushing two runs across in the fifth, highlighted by Talia Dongvort advancing home on a muffed throw by catcher Arcese for the game-winning run.  Two batters later, Moustouka's single through the right side drove in Victoria Santomauro (2-for-4, R) to settle the 4-2 final.

Mackenzie Hymes (S, 1: BB, 2 K) tossed two innings of no-hit relief to lock down the save as Baron registered her 24th-career complete game effort in defeat for Old Westbury.
