@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse closes out road trip at Maritime

Old Westbury opens a three-game homestand Tuesday (Apr. 9) with a Skyline Conference showdown against United States Merchant Marine Academy

THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse concluded its five-game road trip Saturday afternoon with a 16-6 Skyline Conference setback against the Maritime College Privateers (5-3, 1-1 Skyline) from Reinhart Field.  The Panthers (2-8, 1-1 Skyline) move to 4-3 all-time against the Privateers.

Sara Wright broke the scoring ice 5:36 into the opening half ignite a 7-0 Maritime run capped by the game-winning goal courtesy of Ciara Murphy at the 15:30 mark.  Natasha Treuman found the back of the net at 12:06 to put Old Westbury on the board.  Hope Matthews ripped one past Privateer goalie Esmeralda Hernandez (5-3) 13 seconds later to trim the deficit to five (7-2).  Maritime slipped six goals past Panther goalie Tazmeya Allen (2-8) over the final 10:18 to send a 13-2 game into the break.

The Privateers opened the second-half scoring with a three-goal spurt to build a 14-goal cushion (16-2) with 16:29 remaining.  Old Westbury used a 4-0 surge, highlighted by Treuman's two-goal tally to post her 33rd-career hat trick over the final 12:13, to settle the 16-6 final.

Allen made 10 saves in defeat for Old Westbury as Hernandez stopped five shots to secure Maritime's win.

The Privateers held the advantage in shots (30-16), shots on goal (26-11), ground balls (33-15), draw controls (16-8) and caused turnovers (6-5).

In addition to scoring three goals, Treuman scooped up six ground balls.  Matthews followed with two goals and five draw controls to pace Old Westbury.

Catherine Pfundstein led the way with a game-high five goals while MacKenzie Fabiani and Murphy followed with three goals apiece to lead Maritime to victory.  Wright finished with game highs of 13 ground balls and 13 draw controls.

UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens a three-game homestand Tuesday (Apr. 9) with a Skyline Conference showdown against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (9-0, 2-0 Skyline) at 3:30 p.m. from Panther Park.  The Panthers enter Tuesday's matchup with a 4-2 all-time mark against the Mariners.
