OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse opened its three-game homestand Tuesday afternoon with a 21-5 Skyline Conference setback against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (10-0, 3-0 Skyline) from Panther Park. The Panthers (2-9, 1-2 Skyline) are now 4-3 all-time against the Mariners.

Angela Parker beat Panther goalie Tazmeya Allen (2-9) 1:59 in to break the scoring ice for the Mariners. Monique Joseph responded with her ninth goal of the season for Old Westbury to knot the game at one with 24:20 remaining in the opening half. USMMA scored four-straight goals before Natasha Treuman put one past Mariner goalie Hannah Gizzi (8-0) at 18:29 to make it a 5-2 game. Parker produced the game-winning goal at the 12:10 mark to ignite an 8-2 run to send a 12-4 game into intermission.

USMMA opened the second half scoring with a 6-0 spurt from 29:36 to 19:45 to extend its lead to 15 (19-4). Hope Matthews then buried her 18th goal of the season with 18:14 remaining before the Mariners tacked on two goals over the final 16:40 to settle the 21-5 final.

Allen made 12 saves in defeat for Old Westbury as Gizzi stopped four shots and Sunny Rooney faced one shot to combine for USMMA's win.

The Mariners held the advantage in shots (44-12), shots on goal (33-9), ground balls (19-10), draw controls (17-10) and caused turnovers (13-8).

Matthews finished with five draw controls, two goals and two ground balls while Treuman followed with three draw controls, three ground balls and two goals.

Grace McHugh led the way with four goals as Parker, Jessie Wohner, Meredith Willard and Jessica Reilly tallied three to pace USMMA. Maura Malone controlled seven draws and scooped up three ground balls.

SENIOR DAY VERSUS PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury continues its three-game homestand Saturday (Apr. 13) with a Skyline Conference Senior Day matchup against the Purchase College Panthers (1-6, 0-3 Skyline) at 1 p.m. from Panther Park. Old Westbury enters Saturday's matchup with a 3-3 all-time mark against Purchase. Prior to opening draw, Tori Bellings (2019), Erika Fonseca (2016-19), Monique Joseph (2019), Charlotte Renker (2019) and Natasha Treuman (2016-19) will be honored for their dedication to Old Westbury Athletics.
