@OW_Panthers Baseball rallies past Baruch to claim 6-5 win

Old Westbury returns to the diamond Saturday (Apr. 13) for a Skyline Conference twinbill against Farmingdale State College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball picked up a 6-5 non-conference home win over the Baruch College Bearcats (8-12) Tuesday afternoon from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers (14-10-1) improve to a 15-3-1 mark against the Bearcats dating back to the 2006 campaign.

Baruch broke the scoring ice in the opening inning with a Conor McCabe (2 RBI, BB) sacrifice fly out to score Davic Capellan (2-for-4, 2 R, BB, 2B, 2 SB) for the game's initial run on starter Eddie Guzman (ND: 2 IP, H, 4 R, BB).

Old Westbury responded with two runs scored in the first frame on starter Bryan Flannery (ND: 2 R, 2 BB).  Peter Capel (2-for-3, 2 RBI) was hit by the pitch to advance Mike Manetta (1-for-3, 2 R, RBI, BB, 2B) home for the game-tying run before Nic Labiento's sacrifice fly drove in John Condon (1-for-3, R, 2 RBI, BB) to take the 2-1 lead and end Flannery's day.

The Bearcats regained the lead in the third scoring three runs to conclude Guzman's outing.

Trailing 4-2, the Panthers put together a four-run fourth inning to make it a 6-4 game.  Condon extended his hitting streak to five games by slapping a two-run single off reliever Robert Fischer (L, 0-1: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 3 BB, K) to push across Sean Paprocki and Manetta for the game-winning runs.

Baruch scored a single run in the fifth inning as Jorge Mercado (1-for-4, RBI) hit a RBI single off reliever Alipio Tiburcio (1 IP, H, R, 3 BB, K) to plate home Michael McGroarty and settle the 6-5 final.

Panther reliever Steven Tellerias (W, 1-0: 2 IP) fired three strikeouts and scattered a third inning single to JP Ramirez (1-for-4, RBI, BB) en route to earning his first win of the season while Matt Bohenek tossed two innings of no-hit relief and fanned four batters (one walk) to lock down his second-career save.

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its nine-game homestand Saturday (Apr. 13) with a Skyline Conference twinbill against the Farmingdale State College Rams at 12 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
