FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) No. 3 SUNY Old Westbury (23-16-1) and top-seeded Farmingdale State College (32-7) met in the Skyline Conference Baseball Championship finals for the first time since the 2015 campaign Tuesday afternoon from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.  The Panthers used a four-run fourth inning rally but were unable to erase the five-run deficit and fell 8-5 to the Rams.  Old Westbury (23-16-1) conclude the 2019 season with its first appearance in the title game since 2015.

Farmingdale State got to starter Patrick Quinn (L, 4-3: 3 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) by putting two runs on the board in the opening inning.  The tournament's Most Outstanding Player Vincent Rice (2-for-5, R, 2 RBI, 2-2B) cracked a two-run double to right center to score Nick Attardi and Vincent Napolitan (1-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, 2B) for the game's initial runs.

The Rams continued its scoring frenzy with a three-run third inning to build the five-run advantage.  Napolitan slapped a run-scoring double and later scored off Ryan DePalma's (2-for-4, RBI, 2-2B) sacrifice fly out.  Morgan McCarthy (2-for-4, RBI, BB, SB) followed with a single to right field to push across Michael Amandola (2-for-5, R, RBI) to cap the scoring and conclude Quinn's day.

Old Westbury broke into the scoring column by pushing four runs across in the fourth on starter Nicholas Rooney (ND: 3.2 IP, 2 H, R, BB, K) and relievers Anthony Visconte (0 IP, 3 R, 3 BB) and Ryan Mallon (W, 3-0: 2 IP, 3 H, BB, K).  With two outs and no baserunners, Rooney and Visconte handed out a quartet of walks, including Michael Borsch's (1-for-2, R, RBI, BB) RBI walk to put the Panthers opening run on the board.  Sean Paprocki was then hit by Mallon's pitch to advance Nic Labiento 90 feet.  Mike Manetta (2-for-4, RBI, BB) delivered a RBI single through the right side to score a pair of runs and pull within one (5-4).

Farmingdale State put together single runs in the fifth and sixth frames on reliever Matt Bohenek (4 IP, 5 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 2 K) to push the lead back up to three (7-4).  In the sixth, Tyler Schrimpf drove Shawn Blasberg (1-for-4, R) in with a fielder's choice to the second baseman Brandon Wilson that proved to be the game-winning run.

Old Westbury replied in the seventh with a two-out double courtesy of Drew Robertson (2-for-3, R, RBI, BB, 2B) to drive in John Condon (2-for-5, R) on reliever Matthew Constantine (1.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB) and make it a 7-5 game.

The Rams tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on reliever Brandon O'Brien (2 IP, H, R, K) to settle the 8-5 final.

Ram relievers Joe Marino and Steven Burke (S, 2) tossed one inning of no-hit relief and fired one strikeout each to secure the win.

Old Westbury graduates a five-member senior class consisting of Condon (2018-19), Adam Heidenfelder (2017-19), Vinny Negri (2017-19), Christian Tessitore (2017-19) and Alipio Tiburcio (2018-19).
