Pair of second-half goals propel Women’s Soccer to a season-opening win

Old Westbury travels to New Paltz, New York Wednesday (Sept. 4) for a non-conference showdown against New Paltz

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer used a pair of second-half goals Saturday afternoon to claim a 4-2 non-conference season opening victory over the visiting SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers (0-1-0) from Panther Park.

Cobleskill struck first 1:26 into the opening half as Ana Post launched one at the top of the box over Panther goalie Moira Nolan for the early 1-0 lead.  Mia Almonte rebounds Bernadelle Dorvil's blocked shot in the fifth minute and with a light touch found the back of the net to put Old Westbury (1-0-0) on the board (1-1).  In the 12th minute, Post buried her second goal of the game before Brianna Williams put away her first goal of the season (ninth-career) in the 26th minute to send a two-all game into intermission.

7:53 into the second half, Ashley Onofre sent a longball to a running Dorvil who then scored her first-career game-winning goal (3-2).  The Panther defense stifled Cobleskill, limiting the team to only two second-half shots, before Almonte concluded the scoring with her second-career goal in the 78th minute to settle the 4-2 final.

Nolan and Yakeline Umanzor (1-0-0) each made one save as Jill Gordon (0-1-0) stopped four shots in defeat.

Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (14-7), shots on goal (8-4) and corner kicks (4-1).
