Men’s Soccer opens the 2019 campaign at No. 24 Stevens

Old Westbury is back in action Tuesday (Sept. 3) for its home opener against Lehman College

HOBOKEN, N.J. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer opened its 2019 campaign with a 3-2 non-conference road setback Sunday afternoon against No. 24 Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks (2-0-0) from DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, New Jersey.  Today's showdown was the Panthers (0-1-0) first meeting with the former Skyline Conference member dating back to the 2010 season.

Stevens came out the first-half gates as the aggressor, holding an 11-2 shot advantage, in the game's opening 38 minutes.  A costly foul in the 45th minute granted Old Westbury a free kick outside the 18 to be taken by Grixon Moreira.  Moreira's shot attempt was deflected off the wall and ricochet into the net for the Panthers to take the early 1-0 lead heading into the half.

Moreira found success again in the 55th minute as he finished Jonathon Hernandez's cross in the box to double Old Westbury's advantage.  Stevens broke into the scoring column in the 60th minute as Bailey Gano buried Gianni Falvo's feed in the penalty area to trim the deficit to one (2-1).  At 77:17, the Ducks knotted the game at two off of Adam Silva's corner kick turned goal before Matthew Hammons put away the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to settle the 3-2 final.  Old Westbury's final shot attempt came off the boot of Stephen Locurcio in the 88th minute, which sailed wide to the right.

James Perciballi stopped five shots while Aedan Boriotti (2-0-0) did not register a save in a complete-game effort for Stevens.

The Ducks held the advantage in shots (25-5), shots on goal (8-2) and corner kicks (5-1)
