Men’s Soccer tangles with Lehman in home opener

Old Westbury continues its two-game homestand Friday (Sept. 6) with a non-conference matchup against SUNY Potsdam

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer opened its 2019 home schedule with a 2-0 non-conference setback against Lehman College Lightning (3-0-0) Tuesday afternoon from Panther Park.  The Panthers (0-2-0) move to a 3-2-2 mark against the Lightning dating back to 2013.

After an evenly contested opening half that only saw four shots total, Old Westbury turned up the offensive intensity to kick off the second half, holding the 4-2 shot advantage heading into the 62nd minute.  Lehman broke the stalemate in the 66th minute as Joel Arevalo sent a throughball in the box that found Ebenezer Otoo's right boot to put away the game-winning goal.  The Lightning doubled its advantage in the 73rd minute courtesy of Eduardo Victorio, who scored the breakaway goal after receiving Arevalo's longball from midfield to settle the 2-0 final.  Old Westbury's best attempt to break into the scoring column came from Michael Gilligan's on target shot in the 69th minute.

James Perciballi (0-2-0) did not register a save in defeat for the Panthers.  Adrian Magana-Santos faced two shots in the first half while Demiraldo Grunasi (3-0-0) played the final 45 minutes in net and stopped two shots to preserve the shutout.

Lehman held the advantage in shots (8-7) while Old Westbury held the edge in corner kicks (4-1).  Both teams drew even in shots on goal with two apiece.
