Big second half sends Men’s Soccer to Skyline-opening win over Yeshiva

Old Westbury travels next Wednesday (Sept. 25) for a Skyline Conference battle at St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer opened Skyline Conference play Friday morning with a 2-0 triumph at home over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-4-1, 0-3-1 Skyline) from Panther Park.  With the win, the Panthers (3-3-1, 1-0-0 Skyline) improves to a 11-2-0 mark against the Maccabees since 2007.

Prior to kickoff, Old Westbury took part in the Lace up 4 Pediatric Cancer® by wearing Go4theGoal's gold laces.  The gold laces are part of an initiative by Go4theGoal®, an organization dedicated to helping children with cancer to achieve their goals.  Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer® was created in 2011 in New Jersey, with teams all across the country participating at various levels, including all across NCAA divisions.

After a first half that saw Old Westbury put up nine shots as its defense kept the Maccabees shotless, Grixon Moreira launched one five yards out from midfield after receiving quick passes from Stephen Locurcio and Chris Barahona to break the scoreless tie in the 64th minute.  The game-winning goal was Moreira's first of his career. The Panthers doubled its advantage in the 84th minute as Michael Gilligan connected with Moreira for a blast past Maccabee goalie Sagi Badash (2-3-1) to settle the 2-0 final.

Panther goalie James Perciballi (3-3-1) faced his first shot of the game 60:19 in and finished with one save to secure his second-career shutout.  Badash made five saves in defeat for Yeshiva.

At the end of 90 minutes, Old Westbury finished with the advantage in shots (18-3), shots on goal (7-1) and corner kicks (11-3).
