Women’s Basketball paced by a pair of double-doubles at Manhattanville

Old Westbury returns to campus Saturday (Feb. 1) for a Skyline Conference showdown against Purchase College

PURCHASE, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dropped a 75-54 Skyline Conference road decision to the Manhattanville College Valiants (16-2, 12-2 Skyline) Thursday evening inside Kennedy Gymnasium in Purchase, New York. The loss moves Old Westbury to a 7-12 overall and 7-7 in league play as Manhattanville completes the series sweep in its return to the conference.
 
Davida Warren opened the game with a layup to give Old Westbury its only lead (2-0) with 9:28 remaining. Amanda Pemberton drained a jumper 17 seconds later to ignite an 9-2 run for Manhattanville's 9-4 edge with 7:15 left. The Panthers trimmed the deficit to three (9-6) off Warren's lay-in before the Valiants responded with a 17-3 run from 5:14 to 38 seconds to build its double-digit lead, 26-9, heading into the second quarter. Sarah Coutu sank a pair of free throws to spark a 21-11 Manhattanville spurt during the span of 8:13 to extend the advantage to a game-high 27 points, 47-20. Warren (1:17) and Ja'nya Flash (41 seconds) scored back-to-back layups for the Panthers to send the 47-24 game into the break. 
 
Trailing 64-40 after three quarters of play, Old Westbury used a 13-6 run headlined by Warren's six points, over 7:25 of fourth-quarter play to pull within 17 points (70-53). In the remaining 1:56, Faith Johnson-Desilvia scores all of Manhattanville's final five points to settle the 75-54 final.
 
Warren led all scorers with 20 points (9-of-14 FG, 2-of-4 FT) and 17 rebounds (14 offensive) to post her 33rd-career double-double (13th on season). Flash followed with 14 points (4-of-4 FT), 11 rebounds (seven offensive) and two steals to register her fourth-career double-double. La'Niya Clark poured in 10 points while Micah Browne dished out four assists.
 
Spencer Shore finished with 17 points (6-of-11 FG, 5-of-8 3FG) and four rebounds to pace the Valiants. Coutu contributed 17 points (4-of-9 3FG, 3-of-4 FT), seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Johnson-Desilvia added 15 points (6-of-9 FG, 3-of-3 FT) while Pemberton scored 13 points (6-of-8 FG).
 
In the end, Old Westbury finished the evening shooting 27.4 percent (20-of-73) from the field, 7.7 percent (1-of-13) from three-point territory and 86.7 percent (13-of-15) from the free-throw line.  Manhattanville connected on 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from beyond the arc and 72.7 percent (8-of-11) from the charity stripe.  The Panthers won the boards battle, 51-33, while scoring 22 second-chance points off 27 offensive rebounds.  Both teams were even with four fastbreak points apiece. Manhattanville outplayed Old Westbury in assists (17-11), blocks (9-3), steals (7-5) and bench points (11-2) while scoring 17 points off 15 Panther miscues. The Panthers held the edge in points in the paint (36-28)
