Warren joins 1,000 point club as Women’s Basketball rolls past Purchase

Old Westbury returns to the court next Saturday (Feb. 8) for a Skyline Conference battle at St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball maintained a double-digit lead for the final 34:48 of play to snap the three-game skid and capture a 91-56 Skyline Conference win Saturday afternoon over the visiting Purchase College Panthers (3-16, 2-12 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center. The triumph moves Old Westbury (8-12, 8-7 Skyline) to a 13-0 mark against Purchase dating back to the 2014-15 season.

Old Westbury put together a dominating 28-5 first-quarter headlined by La'Niya Clark's 14 points. Heading into the second stanza, Old Westbury outscored Purchase 11-7 to extend the lead to 27 points, 39-12 with 5:21 remaining. Purchase responded by scoring 10-unanswered points over the next 1:55 to pull within 17 points, 39-22. Old Westbury was able to push the lead back up to 21 (46-25) as Davida Warren made a layup with 36 seconds left to score her 1,000th-career point and become the program's seventh player to join the 1K club in 11 seasons. Dejeana Peoples sank a pair of free throws in the last second to send the 47-29 game into the break.

Ahead 68-46 after three quarters of play, Old Westbury remained in the driver's seat using a 23-8 spurt over the span of 8:09 of the fourth quarter to extend its lead to a game-high 37 points, 91-54.  Isis Gonzalez netted a pair of freebies with 40 seconds remaining to settle the 91-56 final.

Clark finished with a career-high 22 points (8-of-14 FG, 6-of-11 3FG) to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Warren followed with 20 points (8-of-12 FG, 4-of-7 FT), 14 rebounds (eight offensive) and three steals to post her 34th-career double-double (14th on season). Micah Browne added 13 points (5-of-10 FG) and a game-high seven assists. Melinda Harris chipped in with a career-high 11 points (4-of-9 FG, 3-of-5 3FG) off the bench while Ja'nya Flash pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds.
 
Plowden led all scorers with 27 points (11-of-18 FG, 5-of-7 FT), eight rebounds and two steals. Peoples contributed 17 points (9-of-18 FT).

Old Westbury shot 46.1 percent (35-of-76) from the field, 41.7 percent (10-of-24) from three-point range and 55 percent (11-of-20) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Purchase landed 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the floor, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from deep and 54.3  percent (19-of-35) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 58-33, and scored 27 second chance points off 25 offensive rebounds while outplaying Purchase in assists (26-7), blocks (4-1), steals (9-6), points in the paint (42-30), bench points (25-10) and scored 23 points off 14 Purchase miscues.  Purchase held the edge in fastbreak points (22-16).
